I think the Japanese also have our local beliefs of good luck kiosk/outlet for their lotteries. Ever passed by one at Yurakucho where there are tons of people q-ing for their lucky break. Where other kiosks are basically waiting for one customer.

You can open an account with Japan Post bank. They allow foreigners to open account. :s13:

Carrying that much cash is probably prohibited.

Brother kifo, can share more ?

Had a super leychey time opening jp post bank account when I was there as a student. I think my account is still there. Never closed it because of practical reasons.

Have they changed the rules ? Must one still possess a gaikokujin card or the newer equivalent

I went to do a bit more research and found it is no longer possible for foreigners on visitor visa to open an account in Japan. It used to be possible with the old ARC system (Alien registration card) but now that has been replaced by a Zairyu card which you can only get with a valid visa.

Sorry if I disappointed anyone.

If you want to access you JP Post bank account, as long as you have your bank book and hanko, it should be still possible unless they have frozen your account. By which then you will need a certificate of residence from your city office.
