sound quality depend on various factors such as quality of router, modem, line condition, broadband speed, etc... not such software only

Hello...
I am looking for ip camera to monitor my flat.
Have some noob questions:
What does it means by 2 way audio?
Does it mean beside hearing the sound captured by the camera we can also for example from iphone we can talk and the voice is transmitted to the camera speaker?

Thanks in advance

Yes. 2-way audio means that one can not just listen to the sounds of the IP camera, but also use the IP camera to transmit sounds. Most IP cameras have a built in mic, so one can listen. On the other hand to talk, your IP camera must have a speaker.

Bought 2 IPCAM from www.ali2.com in June and I would say it is a hit-or-miss product.

Both IPCAM are of identical models but 1 is working well and the other one with DDNS feature not working. After a few emails till this date between the company with detailed information and snapshot provided but nothing is resolved. Below are some of the frustrating points interacting with them.

1. Denial the products is from their company even I emailed them the snapshots showing the product serial numbers and such. They eventually acknowledged the products after I told them I will file a dispute claim with Paypal.

2. Both IPCAM are of same model but with different firmware version. I've asked for information on firmware upgrade but to no avail.

3. DDNS feature for 1 cam is malfunctioning which I narrowed down to some issue that was discovered in their hard-coded setting. They still cant resolved after provided facts to them and doing a comparison with the other working unit.

4. Other questions such as warranty period on the IPCam are ignored completely.

I would advise potential buyers to consider carefully if they wants to deal with such issues for a cheaper equivalent IPCam as compared to branded (more expensive)

Got Foscam fi8918w few days ago. So far overall I am quite satisfy with it.
For the colour, I found that the camera produces wrong colour under sunlight but under normal fluorecent lamp it produces correct colour. I found under sunlight, blue colour become purple and red colour become pink. However, night time when there is no sunlight, under normal lamp it produces the colours correctly. I don't know whether there is a setting to overcome this colour but for me this colour issue is not crucial.

For iphone apps, i use livecams pro and ip cam viewer by robert chou. I prefer robert chou one. The control is more responsive compared to livecams and other thing is ip cam viewer got talk function even sometimes not working i think due to my singtel 3g connection. Both audio and talk i found that the sound is very soft.

OMG ... ali2.com's IP CAM spoil liao.

Suspect LED light board or IR detector spoil .

Anyone got experience of sending item back to China, Shen Zhen City, Guang Dong Province via SingPost or cheaper courier ?

Is Cisco WVC210-G5 a good IP camera ?

It is an okay camera, but a bit pricey, compared to the rest. Feature wise, it falls a tad short (no IR cut filter, for example). Surprisingly, the predecessor, WVC200 is a great camera (see the review at the start of this thread), with good colour reproduction, good sensitivity to low light, and IR capable.

Have been hanging around here for some time before hooting the getting the Foscam July Promo from Marix. Thought i'd share my exp.

Thanks a lot Dr_Archer, your advice is really helpful :)

Very efficient seller, emailed them on Sunday and received a reply on the same day. Got the order 1 day later (Tues), they came exactly at the timing promised which is good as I had a tight schedule.

All 3 cams came with the latest firmware.

Just finished setting up my 3 new cams adding to my dlink 930. Installation was quite straightforward. Had a bit of problems moving from wired to wireless connection because of my repeater. Have to pay attention when they say, plug out the wire in "10 secs after you click", this means you plug out the wire halfway during the camera reboot. Kinda missed that on the first try.

Speaking of wireless, i'm quite happy with the range. Put the cam in a 'bad wireless area' of my home and it still works fine.

Seem to be having some problems with the 2-way audio. Can hear the sounds but can't transmit sounds. Will play around somemore and try.

Not so particular about the video quality so can't really judge. So far seems good, its lowlight capability is great. Movement is quite responsive though not immediate, still acceptable by my standards.

Using an iPhone with IP Cam Viewer and LiveCams Pro (free), prefer IP CAM Viewer so far.

from the description below it appear that the source from oversea and repackage it through marketing like giving 30 days local warranty so on.

If you get it yourself from oversea you will be "surprise" at how cheaper these thing are and the profit margin is quite good.

Should be from local suppler than parallel import to save the future problem and the price is not so attractive taking into consideration has to ship back for rma at your own cost.

China is selling like 79USD .. covert to SGD is around 90. So it is almost 50 - 60 SGD difference.

Hi, for the foscam cameras, does it come with a playback software for the footage that is stored to a NAS? Is the software smart enough to fastforward to the scenes when there is a change or motion?

I would have thought that most video recording is already in a format that media players should be able to play. You shouldn't need to have a special playback software to play the recorded video.

yah.. What i meant was that is there some special playback software that can recognise scene changes? My fren told me his ip cam can playback only scenes when a motion is detected. It can be quite a chore if u r reviewing hours of video footage when maybe only 10% is of interest when there is some action
