Have you tried using Powerline to route your wired ethernet? I do not use it for my IP camera, but do use it for my PC in my room as the Cable modem is just too far away and wireless from living to bedroom is very poor.

Hello, sorry can I know more about what is Powerline & how does it work?

Davidau, which router r u using? To set as pure N, encryption shld b WPA2-PSK, AES encryption only. For longer distance, use 20mhz only instead of 20/40mhz. Change from b/g/n to N only. Its tat simple

Hello, I'm using Dlink router DIR-615. I have tried as what you suggested. After I've changed to pure N & 20mhz, my camera connection doesn't seems got improvement. However, some of my handphone & laptop are not able to connect to the wifi anymore.. If I changed back to the original settings, then restart the router, the connection is come back again..

These are some models of the Powerline adapter.

I use the brands TP Links. You can get them from Challenger or SLS. They are able to transmit Ethernet over Power. This saves the problem of having to run ethernet lines over your house, as they leverage on existing AC power line within the house.

I feel that the connection is more consistent than wifi, and I use them to reach places within the house which wifi probably have difficulties reaching. You can use it to connect to your IP camera. And hopefully you get better connectivity compared to connection via wifi.

My bad, u will need to forget the network on all these device n re connect to the wireless again. Troublesome but definitely a more stable wireless network In long run

you can try to flood your grievances at the vr-zone forum. the marix guy is still active there.

For anyone who have problem with their Vstarcam that is purchased directly with MARIX, do call us during office hours with your UID and our tech support will assist. However, we will not provide any support for non-MARIX supplied products.

yes, its plug and play what. You can use your wifi to view.

If anything plug and play and allows itself to be exposed to the world, your mobile and etc would all be hacked in no time. Do you want that to happen? There is a reason for everything. Not everyone who buys a product wants it to be publish on the web. The camera you've got is capable of doing that - you just need to know how.

IMO Apple products are junks (only imo). Only people who nuts about IT buy them and land themselves in trouble when many manufacturer always create support for Windows first. Besides, Foscam does support safari.

Hi bros,

I need to setup a wireless IP cam to monitor for my baby kid.

As I have never done this before, I have a few questions to ask:

(1) Does the mobile app (or website??) limit the number of concurrent logins? Or is it strictly 1 login at any one time? Anyone knows the number for Foscam & D-Link?

(2) If I want to record 24x7 (and not just activated recording via motion detection), what additional setup do I need? I have no NAS setup currently. Can I just plug a USB HDD into my router and use this to store recordings?

(3) If NAS is required for 24x7 recording, how do I choose one? Do I get the "surveillance" version or just normal NAS will do? Does the NAS having different spec-ed CPU/RAM/HDMI have any difference if my main aim is to just to do baby monitoring and recording?

(4) Do I need to buy a Network Video Recorder from Foscam/D-Link? Looks like I just need to buy a normal HDD for storage. But I don't understand the number of channels and how does this differ from NAS. Do I need to buy the same brand for both wireless IP cam and NVR?

Thanks in advance for reading.

Many people are actually misleaded on how P2P works. The technology does not broadcast your streaming to the web.

1. Your camera sends a regular heartbeat out to a P2P server.
2. When U request view of your camera, a signal/flag is turned ON on the server for the camera to know that a viewing request is initiated.
3. Your camera starts communicating directly to your phone to send the feeds to your phone and continuing reading the flag From P2P server.
4. You end your viewing and flag is turned OFF by your phone, n your camera stops issuing stream and resume step 1.

You get acess to your feed using each cameras's unique ID and your user name n account. All P2P heartbeat servers are hosted on cloud like amazon, azure, taobao, etc.

So level of security is actually in place as well. As long as you do not broadcast your cameras UID, login name and MAKE SURE you change your camera password. I

f you had read and listen to all the reports on cameras being broadcasts online freely, these are home security cameras that are using conventional port forwarding methods badly implemented.

Cloud cameras are safe, no one actually would implements such technology and risk their reputation and lawsuits.

Hope these explanation clarifies and clears the air here on how cloud cameras works and the security concerns

Multiple for most brands

Sure, if your router supports it.

imo, normal 1 will do. mine works perfectly alright despite not being a "surveillance" one. is all marketing gimmick imo.

No.

Thanks in advance for reading.

nWo, most ip camera supports max 4 concurrent viewing

Foscam supports network saving of clips, dlink works directly with their own routers n nas. Marix's own cameras r supported by qnap n synology Nas if you own 1. So it makes use of full potential of your storage device.

Nvrs r just used solely for recording of onvif based ip cameras. Good as it is built solely with surveillance in mind, but i tested that qnap n synology nas can do the same effectively as well.

Otherwise, just buy microsd card n place into your ip cameras will do. Cheapest solution
