It simply means if your existing company is doing this type of business and after you resign and within 3 years you are not allow to work with the company's competitors

I heard of this before. Normally, for high tech company and those specialists or for company having proprietary tech.

Any SME olso gotch such clause. They juz copy pasta from big coy contracts without understanding dat it cuts both ways.

Yes, that's why I find the one in the OP a bit vague. Because it did not specify "compensation" to whom. While I'm inclined to believe that it is referring to compensation for the former employee, I would seek clarification on that part first.
