I have a relatively young staff who returned from 4 months of maternity leave. She insisted on working from home thereafter, which I agreed to for 2 days per week. However, she only reported to the office on 2 days, and requested to leave work 30 minutes earlier on those 2 days. I agreed as I was a young parent 20 years ago and wished to show her some empathy. Then she only came to office 1 day a week, wanted to leave for home by 5 pm and insisted on WFH for the remaining 4 days. Now she doesn't come to the workplace at all, claiming that her baby is unwell. There is a sense of entitlement shown by youngsters these days, who want a cushy job, work life balance and high pay.

Times are changing and the bosses need to understand kids these day have different mindset. The idea of longer hours in exchange for faster growth is no longer appealing to them as it was to us.

Typical the past is good the present is rotten Narrative.
I support the mentality of gen z because the boomer lifestyle is not sustainable. Yes that gen worked hard but the pace was slower. Let’s me clear corporate profits keep rising - more is being extracted out of labour . With technology, the possibilities of being squeezed is endless - reply to emails on holidays etc.
to what end? Die of stroke and heart attack?

Anyway 1 thing won’t go wrong

I met a 66 years old dying man who got a few months to live due to cancer

he got at least 100k+ in bank and a car. He said he worked hard whole life, health also become bad, in the end he never get to enjoy the 100k+!!

lesson learnt: work lesser, earn lesser, get work life balance, at least when you die already no regrets

Life is not about just money

I think approx balance health, work life balance + money is good enough.
