The mark-up on SL shoes compared to their EUR prices is horrendous, made worse by the weak EUR.

If you really want to get a pair, make it a patina pair and not the RTW ones.. would feel less of a rip-off.. at least for me.
Is it possible to ship them in from Europe directly? Their website keeps redirecting me to the singapore site.

Not possible to do that. In fact, even if you were in Malaysia and wanted to buy a pair of SL, they would direct you to the Singapore website as well.

Unless you have a friend who lives in Europe of course.

Hence, might as well get Carminas.

That's right. You will need IP masking and engage the services of a forwarder to be able to buy from Europe. Might still be worth the effort because the mark-up IS really quite high.

Despite my observation that the shop is typically empty most times of the day and closed by 7pm, they seem to be doing very well, securing exclusive distribution rights in several Asian countries and even opened another physical store in Taiwan recently. Guess they must be doing something right!

Well, it's definitely too much trouble for me. I'd just give that brand a miss.

That's why I was attracted to, their patina like Berluti for sub 800 is reasonable

Well, if patina is your thing why don't you consider getting John of Mason & Smith to do it for you or even Edetal? I can even vouch that their patina services are all done BY HAND....

May be a stupid question, if a shoe has already done one time of patina, can we do another layer of patina over ?

I was told it is not possible.

It really depends on whether the existing patina was done using a dark or light shade isn't it?

When buying Loake don't buy "polished" leathers. Buy only the shoes which use calf in their descriptor for leathers.

"Polished" is a nicer way of saying corrected grain.

Thanks. Zooming in on one Design Loake model where the origin is from India. But it is full calf leather, any issues with that? Or should buy those made in UK?

I would tend to agree (at least as inferred from the term 'doing over') that 'darkening' a lighter patina sounds more achieveable than the reverse.

Although I suspect either way would still involve stripping off the existing patina then re-applying the new patina, in which case stripping off a lighter patina might be easier as well.

Would also suspect that there would be some extent of 'damage' to the leather each time the patina is being stripped off, presumably with the use of fairly strong chemicals/solvents, so that could result in a limit of the number of times one can re-do a patina.

Not sure of the price difference but I would go for 1880 or at least shoemaker range if budget permits.

Not just about quality but also the designs etc. The more classic/timeless designs tend to be found in the higher up series.
