Bonafe shoe in Singapore conditions in mid afternoon - note to self is to be careful buying brown because colour fluctuates much more than black eg looks much darker and glamorous in low light conditions like indoors but very light in direct sunlight.

Love this pair though! It is the shoe equivalent of a sports car:);

Photo colours are pretty accurate - no filter, shoes are shown straight out of the box, unpolished or worn etc. I rate the Bonafe higher in all factors than Vass, would buy again ...........

@completenovice

Great posts and photos! 2 good pairs and amazing prices, you got 2 great deals. Lasted trees are so sleek and worth every extra penny.

When the time comes have a look at AM again. You will not be disappointed

So true :(
Went down EEA earlier to try their RTW range but too bad. 7 too squeezy for me at the last two toes while 7.5 too roomy at the heel there.. Seems i got too wide of a feet

I ran into the exact same issue (even down to the size) with their lion the star range of shoes. Ended up ordering from their MTO line and the 7 wide sample shoes I tried fits me perfectly.

Thanks for sharing @completenovice.

I think the Vass pair is a nicely executed, balanced black captoe. I'm sure it'll get plenty of action.

And right now, I think your nick is not very appropriate tbh.

looking to get some shoe trees from taobao - saw this in one of the OPs.

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...m=a230r.1.14.4.8thXID&ns=1&abbucket=18#detail

Should I get a 41 or 42? I wear 8E/D in AE. I'm open to purchasing from elsewhere, not too fussy as long as they fit ok.

Also, if anyone knows where I can get some cheap plastic shoe trees like the ikea ones (for my sneakers) that would be great as well

thanks :)

Did you find the toebox slightly long? I had the same issue with width for the RTW, and so tried the sample shoes for MTO - found the toe box area too long for my liking..

what was the damage? :o

Keep trying other makers. You may find a better fit and know your feet better

This is good advice.

Dominic, take your time to shop around. Try the shoes on for size. It's a good idea to focus on fit for a start. Then look at styles, designs, and other details slowly.

If something is uncomfortable, it's quite unlikely you will wear them even if they look very good.

Very true, i'm now looking more to fit and comfort first.
any other local makers for RTW for recommendation? :o

i use those, they are pretty much true to size and may run a little big in fact.. which is the point of shoe trees anyway just make sure you use their size chart to match..

not sure why sneakers need shoe trees unless they are made of leather..

I did not. the sample 7 wide i tried fit my feet perfectly. But I suppose those are seasoned shoes so I would expect the new pairs to be a little more snug.

$289. went with a burgundy wingtip oxford with round toes.

289 quite reasonable for a MTO make.
can consider though, as i assumed previously it may be much higher for a MTO thus i didn't probe further while at their store :(

I think so too. Especially when you compare it to their off the rack selection at $189. For a hundred dollars more, you get a pair of goodyear welted shoes with your choice of colours, toe shape and width. I think the build and materials will be the same though.

Silly me didn't probe further as their store is rather out of place for me actually. But the guy there did told me need wait 2 months for MTO. Maybe after CNY will head there unless got other recommendations here as well :crazy:

Glad you like them Wiz, have been taking a long hard look at AMs, will post some more after CNY ...... take care

Agree with you, the Vass is a nice shoe but honestly, looks a little bland in real life, may not be compelling enough for me to buy again.

Still lots to learn but one thing I am sure of, after this exercise, not going to buy Churches ever, ever, ever again. They used to be great but these days, under Prada ownership, the shapes look "off" to my untrained eye, the quality is poor and they appear very ordinary / extremely expensive up against Bonafe, Vass and AM .......

Hi, just wondering if there are any good recommendations for loafers socks? Mine from muji/uniqlo seems to always slip out. Side point, am looking for suede double monks actually. Any idea if meermin’s are any good?

I tend to like thick socks for loafers. M&S used to have some with reinforced heels that worked well for me.
