On the topy question, just wanted to add (since he is too modest to say it himself) that wrinklednails does really good work for a great price. He’s topy-ed many pairs for me and I’m always happy with the results!

There are many reasons why one would choose to re - sole a pair of welted shoes.

Instead of just buying blake stitched shoes and topying them again and again. Or buying cemented shoes and topying them again and again.

While not a hard and fast rule, the better constructed shoes are also typically made with better materials. And the lower construction methods are also typically made with poorer materials. For example, you will hardly see cemented shoes made with first cut full grain leather uppers, and you will also not see Japanese bespoke makers making a pair of bespoke shoes with corrected grain leather. GYW shoes may fall somewhere in between.

As such, a pair of welted shoes made to the best of standards are also usually made with materials meant to last. A resole can also bring a good number more years to a pair of shoes whose uppers have already moulded to your feet, and which you've spent time conditioning, polishing, building up a special character on, for a few years. A pair of shoes can go beyond just dollars and cents.

Moreover, though this might not be the preference for some, the welt and the outsole on welted shoes actually acts as a protective "barrier" as it protrudes some distance from the uppers. So when your foot kicks against something, the uppers are less likely to get damaged. Then again, if someone is buying shoes with a topy and throw away mentality, then it probably doesn't matter.

This is a simple brown plain toecap oxford. Every make has a model like this. What’s your Budget u have in mind?

No la, I'm not any different or know particularly more than many of the other shoe guys on this thread.

In fact, in that price bracket, you can consider the Loake Aldwych. Exact same design. That particular last (Capital last) can be tried on at Robinsons to determine your size accurately before you make your purchase.

Yes Loake Aldwych! Just got them off pediwear almost 2 weeks ago after some advise from here. Paid around SGD 320 after convertion. Thanks thunder! It's awesome for a beginner like me. Yanko double monk next! Haha

You can try the sizing of Loake at metro centerpoint. Robinson's don't have Loake Aldywch the last time I went. However they only carry full sizes and no half size.

Aiming for a pair of aldwych now, just pending for either pediwear or herring drop price first

Yesterday went centerpoint and robinsons to try on size. Smallest they have only sz 7,no half sz available and i suspect I should be a sz 6.5 as the sz 7 is ok for the width but heel there got space to slide back and forth.

Difference between sz 6.5 and 7 is limited to the length only or does it affect the width as well?

Zonkey Boot - Brown elephant boots, took inspiration from a pic from awhile back (TM's I think? spot the differences? :s13: ).
Also included comparison shot with Roszynai elephant boots, different grain pattern. This 1 doesnt hide creases that well =:p
