I recall you bought LLYR before? (probably the earlier buys in your series of shoes purchases hehe). How have they been compared with your meermins?

Yes indeed, llyr's DM is the first pair of goodyear welt shoe i owned :s13:

Below is my own perception and in no means in making any offence remarks to the respective brands that i have mentioned.

Having owned a pair of llyr vs Meermin classic line. I will say the calf leather from llyr is similar if not better than the classic from Meermin. llyr sourced from Tannerie d'Annonay, same source as hermes.... where Meermin from Les Tanneries Du Puy. Of course it all depends on which part of the whole cow they taken the cut from.....

I prefer the finishing from llyr when I first inspect it and there isn't any sign of burnish mark as well as imperfection. Even if there is, i can always ask for a change cause it is based locally (I believe i can speak for edetal as well). Meermin will be a hit and miss affair after delivery. Sure you can always send it back if there is any imperfection but the hassle to send it back and having to fork out extra for the shipping will put some bros here off. All will be good if you receive it in near perfect condition. Out of my 4 pairs classic line, only 1 pair occurs with a part finishing coming off after applying saphir rejuventor (http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/83261225-post4790.html) as well as the brouging holes not probably removed problem. This is easily resolve with a visit to the local cobbler here. This I felt comes from the QA policies of the companies despite both of them coming from factory in asia (lly :: vietnam and meermin :: shanghai).

The rest of meermin are in perfect condition though. And I have wearing and thrashing them..... Having said that, llyr takes a while for me to break them in. My right shoe heel has been giving sole feet for about first 10 wears but now having broken in, all is well and it feel comfortable now.

Another point meermin has over llyr is their selection of last that they have to offer, olfe, hiro, new rey and the upcoming park etc..... llyr hasn't been too detailed about the last they offered and same to me there is only one last available (squarish round last). To put it into perspective, it is quite similar to capital last from loake and ben last from meermin but in a smaller width.

This is from my own experience and hopefully this helps some bros here who want an comparison between both brands. Will write another review between meermin and edetal soon. Cheers!

i rmb-ed going to Tangs Orchard to view the shoes in real. Perhaps its the lighting, or perhaps the shoes displayed isn't of the best condition, or minimally polished, i find them rather disappointing. The pictures look great though.

I viewed the 1st collection before and def not impressed. Havent seen the 2nd though where they intro some more "staple" models. Like the wing tip brogues shared.

N m pretty sure its vietnam from what i read + India is tough place for small timer to bank their manufacturing on...

Vietnam... But nevertheless, with growing push for quality and better QC, these days Southeast Asian production facilities are churning out much better RTW shooz. Heck, some folks are even beginning to explore Chinese-made GY welted products as possible alternatives to the expensive brands...

One or 2 shanghai shoe names have been around awhile i believe, alongside the tailors, with their roots from meeting needs of expats (who have a long history with shanghai). just probably much less common.

Agree when I saw the display models at Tangs the finishing was not so good. But I didn't request to try new ones to see the finishing.
