I upped half a size in simpson and wear uk 9 and it fits great
my new rey is coming in a few days, i kept my simpson sizing and most ppl say new rey fits similar to simpson
you sound like at most a uk 7.5 in new rey if you find uk 7 in simpson too snug
you must take meermin's size recommendations with a good pinch of salt
they recommended i take 8 in hiro, i fit 8.5 in almost everything that does not fit too narrow. and if i took 8 in hiro i would have firebombed all my meermin shoes in hiro to oblivion. as it is, their 8.5 fits really strangely

So far I've only tried the Simpson last for Carminas. Wasn't too interested in the other lasts. The rain last looks ok but didn't have the chance to try it out.

The Simpson last in 7UK was quite snug. I tried it out in the evening so I'm assuming my feet have already expanded enough. Assuming the leather expands a little it would be a good enough fit. I also tried the Simpson last on a 7.5UK and that had a fair amount of heel slippage so I don't think the 7.5UK would be appropriate for me. I'd be keen to know if the new rey would be slightly tighter or loose compared to a Simpson of the same size. That would help me in figuring out if i should stick to a 7UK for the new ray last or up half a size.

I wear a 39/40 on Ed et Al shoes if that's of any help....

Yes, Carminas are nice indeed..... I was at the launch event at 55 but unfortunately(or should I say luckily), the shoe I was eyeing ran out of size 7... otherwise my wallet would have been a tad lighter....

Yeah.. I could but there's very few on the Simpson last and even fewer that caught my eye (one of which was a cordovan shell - very painful on the wallet). And I wasn't too sure how different the fit would be compared to the Rain last so my choices are limited.

if you are looking at the rain wholecuts in shell you should size down by which makes you rain 6.5
i have that pair and did find that i had a bit of heel slip on my left , not because of sizing but probably because (according to a good friend) shell has more flex than calf, i do tend to agree now that i think about it

Not entirely sure but I don't think the Carmina shoe trees are lasted. Those with them can give a better idea.

Its always better to get a shoe tree which is close to the last of the shoe for better shape retention but having a shoe tree is already better than no shoe tree. Price wise, I don' think there's much of a difference right? If so, might as well just get the Carmina ones.

you should go for size 6.5 in rain, which is half size down from your simpson, plus it feels snug for you in simpson 7 like you mentioned

I tried Rain and Simpson in both calf leather, I got the heel slip in rain last while Simpson was perfect.

Ed Et Al is retailing their shoe trees @ $60/pair, but if you purchase any of their RTW collections too, it's $50/pair for the shoe trees instead. Oh, Atelier LLYR at Swagger Store too also retails shoe trees but I'm unsure of their pricings.

How much are the carmina shoe trees? You can get cheap woodlore ones from Taobao or Amazon.

Yknow, I have this pair of carmina single monks that I'm thinking of selling - I think it's the same model that KS brought in - and it so happens its size 6.5 or 7. The double layers of leather are killing my instep.
