So, what would be better value, but without branding?

To be honest, based on personal experience, I've tried both Collonil 1909 and Burgol polishing products (polishes/wax), but I find Saphir to be pleasant (scent, shine level and speed). Well, of course this is entirely subjective; to each his own.

Loake 1880, barker professional collection, herring shoes, duggers

Non english but can consider: meermin

If I may add on to the list(given the budget allocated),

English:
- Grenson (sturdy English shoes, comparable to Loake 1880)

Non-English(but no physical store here, sizing can be quite tricky):
- Loding
- Finsbury

Based on personal experience.

Edetal rtw retails at $350 and carminas at least $500 if u got a good deal, diff league if u ask me and i believe lirahs share the same view in some earlier posts.

Ed Et Al (RTW range) is comparable to Meermin line (not Linea Maestro range), but presently substantially afar from Carminas (RTW range). If given the choice, Carmina it will be. Great QC, Betty is efficient (prompt & courteous in replying emails), good construction, and icing on the cake: FREE shipping to Singapore (only available via their official e-store and as for now only). It's a no-brainer, pal.

Oh.. free shipping is still on? That's great if u factor in the weak EUR, although I hate the fact that GST cannot be avoided (both the $ and hassle).

But all in still a better price than that of the local retailer. To be honest, I pity the local retailer to an extent as I would of Robinsons and their Loake/Barker inventory. But certainly not complaining

Yes, free shipping is still on. I ordered a pair of 910 wholecuts (RAIN last) few hours ago. Can't wait. Heh.

Local retailer? KS, you meant?

Disclaimer: I'm re-posting this as I finally managed to upload the picture. Yes, I admit I'm maladroit. Hah.

A recent Ed Et Al's MTO order I commissioned last year.

Style: Full brogues (5 eyelets)
Last: Shenton
Construction: Goodyear-welted
Leather type: Italian full-grain calf
Width: EE
Size: 39
Preferences/Requests: Closed channel stitching, beveled waist, slight toe burnishing, orange insoles, burgundy patina on soles.

Ed Et Al's MTO shoes (not RTW) are comparable to Meermin's Linea Maestro line. I can't compare Ed Et Al's RTW shoe range with Carmina RTW shoe range due to price point but the latter's QC and quality is more desirable & eminent.

That is interesting. I have a pair of MTO from Ed. Got them about 2-3 years back and personally I don't feel that they are comparable to Meermin's LM line. Of course, given Meermin's reputation for QC, it's hard to say. Leather quality for the LMs are better, at least in my opinion.

The only plus point is the customization but at a price point of $700, it opens the doors to other options out there like Septieme, Carmina, Meermin etc.
That's just how I feel. After all, they've got to pay the rent.

Dear all,

Does Carmina (ready to wear) or Ed Et Al (RTW) come in small size 38.

Thank you.

Meermin's LM leather quality is better than Ed Et Al's MTO. This is subjective, of course. It took me less than 2-3 days of wearing to break-in Meermin's LM shoes but for Ed Et Al's MTO, 3-4 weeks. Oh, not forgetting the unforgettable blebs and haunting blisters.

On another hand, Meermin's QC is inconsistent. And if there's any visible significant flaws, one has to ship that pair of shoes back to España, incurring both shipping costs and perhaps courier delay. However for Ed Et Al, if you're unsatisfied, just apprise the sales assistant and they will gladly oblige. And you will get those pair of shoes back in less than a week(if the flaw is nothing gargantuan).

I was not surprised of the increase from $500 to $700 for Ed Et Al's MTO prog. Perhaps, they intend to curb orders and maintain a good QC. Oh yes, rental could play a role in that surge too.
