hmm anyone with advise?

I think the main issue here is that you have worn out the soles of the shoe.
There's no real way to avoid them, except to put sole savers on the shoe or not wear the shoe.

But then again, I've never heard of any cobbler doing sole on rubber soled shoes?

The sole saver costs about $20 and you just replace them when you have worn through it, instead of replacing the whole sole.

It comes down to a cost vs benefit, depending on the cost of your shoe, if it is really worth it to put on sole savers or just buy a new shoe,

Is the 9.5G the Richmond you posted up for sale before? So now that it fits, you're not selling it anymore i presume?

Is your black oxford the 1880 Aldwych or the Herring Knightsbridge? I'm leaning more towards the Herring because of the free shoe tree, seems like a pretty good value :D
Or put it another way, if it wasn't for the free shoe tree, i'm 90% set on the Aldwych, lol.

I understand the Herring Classic line is made by Loake. Is the quality on par with the 1880?

Yea, the Richmond isn't for sale anymore, besides I don't think anyone will buy it. Hah.

The picture I posted about the black oxfords is actually from Clarks, but it is from the goodyear welted range in calf-leather, which I picked up from the Clarks factory outlet sale at Yishun SAFRA a few years ago. I was not even knowledgeable on shoes then, but at least I managed to pick up a good deal. Can't say the same about the corrected-grain dub monks from Clarks though.

If it helps you decide, Pediwear provides free shoe trees (although not as good as the Herring Shoes shoe tree) and a tie if you order Loake from them.

Loake Aldwych at Pediwear

Prices are comparable across the 2 sites, differing by maybe $5-10 or so, nothing significant.

Honestly, between my only pair of Loake 1880 (Hilton) vs my Richmond, there is no discernable difference in quality and both are equally well-built.

Cool, great that you got a deal even when you didn't know much back then.

Nice recommendation. I think the free shoe trees that Pediwear's giving looks pretty cheapo compared to the Herring ones. Looks like Herring's the way.

This is what i wanted to know most, great!

I know right... Can't be helped since the sale's over already.

Thank you for your input, Ind1go. I read a couple of your posts in this thread before and they were helpful for me, too.

Did you try your shoe size at robinsons first? Or you went with your gut feeling, followed that general sizing guideline and ordered online right away?

Herring told me the difference in width for half sizes is 3-4 mm. Hmm, decisions decisions. Still can't make up my mind, lol.

I did manage to try a 7G and it was way too narrow. The length was fine, though. If only i could find the equivalent of a 7.5G in width F!

Does Loake, the company itself, entertain and reply emails?

Yes they do.

Ind1go.. saw you posted a comment that you bought a oxford from clarks? i am looking into clarks as they provide great comfort footwear for me, at reasonable price ranges of about $100 to $200? which design would you recommend?

the common loakes and herrings you guys are discussing about.. does it really feel that comfortable for everyday wear? from the designs i see online, they do offer pretty good design ranges. But definitely, they are higher priced i assume, as compared to clarks and hush puppies.

What do you guys think?

I think not. Most UK brands carry size 5.5 as the smallest. Even then, that's not common. You can ask if Herring does a custom order. If so, you will have to pay a small upcharge on top of the regular retail price. This is probably the best way forward.

I think design-wise is what you really want.. I like classic english shapes (nicely rounded toe). However, quality is what you should look for. Clarks only has a few shoes which are goodyear welted and calf leather, and they are quite rare to find when you are shopping around.

Comfort for Loakes and Herrings is ok for me, no pinching, tightness, etc. I can wear the shoe for the whole day + a bit of walking with no issues. I've never tried walking super long distances though.

Try Pediwear or Shoe Healer. They have a price pledge on their sites. If you are able to find cheaper, they'll beat it by 5% IIRC.

I get Saphir from afinepairofshoes.co.uk

Thanks Kiton! The site is awesome! :D

Almost bought Collonil creams from Masterfix in Raffles. Heard its just as good as Saphire. But since its cheaper buying online, might as well go for the Saphire range.

Have a few questions.
A) From my understanding, this is the steps to take care of leather shoes
1. Use saddle soap to clean (Is this really necessary? Can I just use a cloth to clean the dirt from the shoe?)
2. Use shoe cream
3. Use Shoe Polish
4. Protect shoe with water repellents (Is there a difference with shoe spray or gel? Eg. Collonil.com and Saphir Medaille D'Or Tinted Renovator Suede Spray 250ml). There are so many different types of show polishes and creams that it gets so confusing.. But I must admit, I'm starting to have alittle fun researching them one by one :D
Am I missing any steps?

For shoes trees, there are different "lasts" (Shoe Horn - Quality Wood and Horn products | A Fine Pair of Shoes). Whats the difference? Or is the normal Cedar shoe trees good enough?
