Yes you need 2 different color tone polish.

1 must be darker than the shoes original color. Lighter shoe polishes will not affect or change a shoe's color but a darker one will.

How long have you been wearing this pair of loake aldwych? I have the same pair since 2 months ago and been wearing 2-3 times a week. I quite like the rich looking leather and top cap design. But I do not find the shoes really stable, as in I sometimes can feel the soles 'shifting'. I am waiting for my second pair of brown shoes to arrive, then I will reserve this pair of loake only for formal ocassions.

Anyone bought shoes from Ed El Al? Just went to their shop and they need to wait for like 2 months for the shoes to be made. Finely hand crafted leather with SEA calf leather and good year welt.

I bought, and so did a friend of mine. He bought his for his wedding at the end of the year - wearing it around the house to season it. ;p

I guess it could be due to the leather sole, which is slippery when i walk on carpeted floor. My mistake. I think the loake will break in and turn out better as i wear it more often, just like my other pair of italian derby shoes. So what do you think is the reason for the sorry state of your shoe?

Usually those antiquing of the shoes form naturally depending on how you wear it. It is kind of like denim where it takes on the character.

Sunlight changes the color of the leather, scratches, etc all changes the leather and gives it patina.

Those shoes were worn til they took on such character and contrast in the color. Of course, we can always do it artificially by using polish to speed things up if you can't wait for years

I've never had this issue with any of my shoes and it should be a manufacturing defect.

It's just a minor thing so it doesn't really affect me much. Besides most of the time it's covered by my pants. I'm just curious to know if it's anything that I've done to cause it, so that I can avoid such a mistake next time!

And like arcturuz said I got it from Zalora at 50% discount lol. Would be feeling a lot worse if I got it at ~$400...

I would still fire off an email to check though. I've always found Loake to have excellent customer service.

It could be caused by stress due to not using a shoe horn?

Just let it come naturally
I think thats the best part of acquiring a patina.

You'll probably have to use a calf leather shoe if you want to antique. The cheaper corrected grain leather shoes will not be as receptive to the different polishes.

Yea, I'll let it age.. I've been obsessively looking at patina shoes online and how disastrous it can turn out if done wrongly..
