I admit I have neither.

But from what I read online, Loake doesn't wear too well over time. At least EEA has the benefit of the doubt since it's new.

For Ed Et Al, you get to try it out first. And apparently they use full-grain leather. Does 1880 use full-grain or corrected grain? Anyone care to comment?

The 1880 line should be using full-grain leather.
I have a pair of Hiltons and its getting on decently well about a year into usage.

Loake 1880 Islington or Ed Et Al Merlion?

The Loake from Plal cost only S$40 more than the Ed Et Al at $280, so I'm more concerned about the quality.

Those who has experienced both, how?

I have a pair of from Loake and a pair from Ed Et Al. Although it's a different range, I would go for Ed Et Al. Saw the Merlion in person and it looks yummy.

Actually, if you are more concerned about quality, why not just go for Allen Edmonds. It's cheaper and is at least on par with Loakes.

The only thing is that you gotta find a style you like. I guess not many appreciate more rugged shoes.

That's true if you are comparing full retail price. But one shouldn't be buying AEs at full retail price!

AEs can always be found at a discount somewhere. I guess Amazon or eBay are the best places to find discounted AEs.

I think Ed Et Al's value proposition is that you get to try their shoes in person for that perfect fit. Otherwise it's highly marked up Goodyear welted shoes in Singapore for you, or buying online.

If you asking about my pair of AEs in that pic, then it's around SGD$390 with shipping (Amazon). But this is the AE Jefferson from the Independence Collection. The standard range should be cheaper by maybe 50 bucks, I think?

hi guys, im a newbie at shoes. Just ordered a pair of tailored shoes & paid for over S$500, 6 weeks to collect. Is it worth it? My usual shoes that cost ard $100+ always cant last long even with minimal walking. Usually can just last me for less than a year before all kinds of problems appear. So basically got to change a new pair of shoes every year. Im not that technically particular on shoes as long as they are comfy & longlasting. I hope my new pair of tailored shoes can last more than 2 years i'll be happy enough. I asked for hand-sewn on the soles so that the heels dont break off so easily and they are made of leather as well. Experts here any advice for me? Did i get a good deal or too expensive?
