i would suggest muji. those opaque boxes, easily stackable, and could be shifted anywhere. A bit investment though, considering if you have many shoes.

Good idea! Muji stuff not cheap though. But then again if u hv expensive shoes n trees n all, its abit more cost to so-call complete the shoe care regime (in this case the storage aspect).

I actually disagree. You can get away with black shoes; paired with black, all sorts of grey to navy pants.

As for brown shoes, you can only pair with grey, navy and brown pants.

In terms of pairing with working shirts, i think the black shoes is more versatile as brown pants are harder to pull off. Not to mention if you are sticky about shoe colour pairing with belt colour.

+1 on that. Black shoes are all along the standard for office dress wear (and still the only option for black tie/formal occasions). With the exception of probably khaki/earth/brown dress pants (which aren't easy to match with dress shirts also), black shoes go with most other colour dress pants for work.

The notion of black shoes are for black pants only feels to me like a recent "styleforum-ish" type of thing going around.

If one is only able to get a single pair of dress shoes and nothing more, I would recommend black over any other colours.

i think black oxford shoes are alright for most pants color as long as its properly shined. of cos, the belt colour also have to match.

To clarify, not saying black shoes w navy or grey is better than with brown shoes.

Rather, i meant black shoes are not strictly for matching w black pants n nothing else. N since the discussion was on basics, i therefore felt black shoes would be a more useful colour if down to choosing just 1 pair of dress shoes.

Personally dont think its uncle. Its a classic and more professional look IMO, assuming all things equal with the attire, shoe quality/shine except for the colour.

Other than the slight budget issue, most likely one would opt for home delivery, if he/she doesn't own any transport. Imagine taking the boxes with MRT. LOL

Hows comfort of ur loakes so far alvin?

Oh, forget to give my short review here....

The strand after 3 wears, each wear about 8 hours on the average has been comfortable so far. Leather feel softer vs meermin from the moment I wear them. No breaking in is needed. Feel the same after long hour of wearing. No sore heel or toe area tightness. Strand being an oxford shoe has been easy to wear, compared to my meermin black captoe. Could be due to the width of the shoe (strand F vs Meermin E). Those bros who has been wearing close lacing shoe should know what i means.

The loake leather sole felt thinner compared to meermin leather sole. When i am wearing strand, i feel more contact feel against the ground. For eg, when i step on a small stone or uneven ground I will feel it more compared to meermin. Quality of leather is good as well with even creasing on the captoe area. Only con I felt is the last. If only they have strand in last like Meermin olfe/hiro not too squarish in the captoe area, it should be a killer model IMO. Overall it is still a fine pair of shoe, with its versatile colour matching, I actually worn it for 3 different occasions. I have worn it with dress pant(work), chino(casual friday work) and raw denim(weekend casual) so far.

Agree. At least 1-2 pair of black shoe (captoe) for the formal event is a must in basic wardrobe.

I bought a pair of the bata ambassador range in March. Probably the best design bata had. However their sizes run slightly large, their uk 7, is like my uk 8.

yea i also realised that ladies everywhere likes brown colour alot, why is that so huh? Becos they like chocolates or what? ANybody can shed a light on this? So probably brown colour should be the best colour to go around with? Good for matching as well? Its like not neither too light color nor dark that sort of thing??
