How does the sizing go? I am wearing 37 for edetal, red wing 5.5E or 6D.

rubbing alcohol but need to be careful, it can strip the finish of your shoe also. or can try saphir renomat

If it fits perfectly, should you size down half a size to account for expansion?

I've never bought leather loafers off internet. The only pair i got, it happens to be 0.5 smaller than my usual leather shoes (monks n oxfords) but they fit.

I wear suede driving loafers my normal size though..

Loafers are very tricky for me. Usually have to size down one because I wear them sock less.

But it also depends on the last. Some loafers are quite narrow and sizing down to fit the length will be too tight for the width.

For that reason, I don't buy loafers untested.

I won't. Wear it comfortable from day 1 and get insoles etc later on if necessary

No offence but UK5 is probably a below average size and so it may be difficult to find a taker.
