My shoes are still stiff after wearing for a number of times. But it should not be uncomfortable.

Just that it keeps rubbing against the back of my foot the tendon part
There still room for a finger so I dun think it's the sizing

If there's room for a finger then it's most likely the sizing. Shoes that fit well won't "rub" your heels because they'll cup your feet nicely.

I notice that this is a very common problem. Most of us are so afraid of buying tight shoes so we size up more than we should. I blame the Bata salespeople that ingrained us with this thinking when we were kids buying white canvas shoes. The one/two finger rule applies for sneakers yes, but not so much for dress shoes. It also depends very much on the last, some of us have wide toes and skinny heels, which can make sizing for loafers a very troublesome thing, among others..

So it's too large? It's a size 41
The only other snug fitting shoe I have is my running shoes

The sales asst mentioned I have to be able to fit a finger or two for the dress shoe
Even though the shoe isn't really the pointed tip model, the front is much narrower than my previous shoe, any smaller would be quite uncomfortable me thinks...

Well telling me your size isn't going to help since I've never seen your feet before :s13:

Sounds like the shoe is a bad fit for you then. Look for a wider width but drop half a size, and if it's not possible then time to look at another brand/maker.

Ok, sorry if I wasn't being very helpful.

It would be good if you let us know what kind of shoe it is, or better yet just post a picture of the shoe, or even better yet post a picture of the shoes with your feet in 'em. The abrasion on your heels can be caused by two things, heel lift or just bad/unsuitable design(top-line might be too low). If it's the former, there is hope because your shoes might just need some time to break in, but there's also a chance the problem becomes worse if the shoes are already too big to begin with. If it's the latter issue then just buy heel liners to cushion your feet.

Lastly, are you wearing socks with your new shoes?

Yes socks otherwise I'll probably be having blisters

I'll take a pic later, it's currently in a shoe tree at home

Guys.. i need your opinion.. With a budget of SGD$600, should i go for..

2 pairs of classic collection of Edetal ($349/pair)
OR
1 pair of Carminas (about $600) ?
OR
Meermins?

*hates it when i am going e-commerce. always not confident about the sizing and fit etc.

*anyone owns a pair of meermins from shoe size 7 to 8? able to let me try? coffee's on me.

Really depends on your wardrobe and what you already own. Also, if its a case of simply having money to spend to ease the "itch", save it for a couple more months so that more options will open up to you. Otherwise you'll find yourself owning 5-6 pairs of Meermins and always pining for that EG/G&G and such. :)

I am giving away my old/unwanted shoes to charity, at the meantime doing a revamp to my dress shoe collection. Been reading up on various shoe brands especially vass/carmina/meermin. I am extremely curious to know how they fare as compared to edetal's RTW collection.

I have a pair of dark brown monks from edetal. Thinking of adding in a black classic captoe into my collection, as well as expanding my current dress shoe collection. Sizing is always a gamble when purchasing via-eonline, though i could always approach them with an email.

Probably won't venture into the EG, GG shoes. Besides being expensive, i don't want to invite unwanted stares from my peers/jealous bosses. I am currently in my early/mid 20s.

Frankly, i dont think many people will know if u wore EG or GG. It is not (yet?) the singapore culture to spend above 1k for dress shoes even for bosses. Cars n watches come 1st in terms of ability to attract attention amongst male corporate types.

Back to your question, have u visited KS? They spose to carry several brands including carmina which u can feel n try. The shoe snob trunk show in nov is a good chance to try some nice shoes at good value (based on internet banter) too.

I m not big on Edetal rtw shoes. Mto fits your budget too n worth exploring imho.

I gave a call earlier today to ks and confirmed that the carminas are not in store yet. I was told it will be around dec or earlier.

Perfect for a x'mas excuses.

Just received my first "good" pair of shoes last night. Pulled the trigger on a pair of black cap toe oxfords from Meermin.
Prompt delivery. Ordered on Monday, received on Friday. Thanks to advice given by forum members and esp bro Alvin, managed to get a pretty good / comfy fit on a Size 8.5
Shoes look great, though I think finishing can be improved.
Havent got the other essentials (ie shoe trees and cremas / wax) so I wont be wearing them out just yet.
Again thanks to all you forumers for this tremendous amount of sharing.
Have ordered 2 more shoes from the Linea Maestro line. Waiting with bated breath
