long time lurker, first time poster.

I've had some experience with Ed Et Al shoes and would like to give a short review after owning a pair for 6 months.

It is true. Leather quality is questionable. Creases easily even with shoe trees and leather can look dull or lack lustre without wax polish. At this price point, there are many many (better) options out there. Even Meermins are better and cheaper imho. That said, I think Ed Et Al designs are above average, tho would like to see the collection come in a wider variety of colours.

Would really love to be a patriot and support our local shoemaker. But the price point is way too high for the level of quality. They charge $160 for resoling btw. For those that bought them at $300, that's more than half the price of the shoe. With the MTO service at $700, there are other options available, eg. Diamond Walker. Would be nice to see them give a more appropriate rate locally especially considering they're made in vietnam.

I am just being especially critical for the sake of this review, else, I am very happy with my Ed Et Al i have now, but will take my $350 somewhere else for my next pair.

If you read today's ST, there is an article mentioning the shoemaker for LKY. His shoes are made once a year or once every 2 years. And they costs about $300, with adjustments at $30 a pop.

He also has his own lasts as well.

Anyone knows about this shop?

try to drop by Lee Hoi Wah @ Blk 9 Jln Kukoh #03-73 and order a MTO shoe. Be prepared to pay $400 plus for a full leather shoe and waiting time of about 3 months.

Has anyone actually tried them before though? I'm quite sceptical, considering the price point, and the fact that LKY use to make the same pair of shoes every year (or is it every two years).

Based on that information I can only conclude the shoes were not good year welted, thus once the shoes were spent, the only option was to make new ones. That, or the leather quality is really poor, so that even with resoling, the shoes do not look sharp.

LKY used CYC. And for those who are into tailoring, we know the standard of CYC.
If we can extrapolate, my guess is LKY is a person who sought the familiar and convenient for things which do not matter. Clothes ans shoes would be in his box for him.

Personally I would not be holding high hopes of this obscure shoemaker.

But i am naturally curious.

Or he is a patriot and only buys local? Haha. Can't think of any local tailors and shoemakers who exited in his time other then CYC and this Lee Hoi Wah.

I never bought from them because they look chunky and unfashionable. They are literally the uncle shoe since my Dad wears them. However I just took a look at their website and it seems that their designs have improved. Will take a look the next time I see a Hush Puppies store.

Love the logic at play above. Uncle wear shoes of that brand -> that brand is an uncle brand.

Since every brand of shoes have at least one uncle wearing them, hence every shoe brand is an uncle brand.

i thought it was pretty obvious that he meant the frequency of occurence of uncles who wear the brand. Eg. Hush puppies is an uncle brand because it's customers tend to be skewed towards uncles.

By your logic, I'm sure some random teenager is wearing hush puppies shoes somewhere. Thus hush puppies is both a teenager brand and uncle brand?

I am an uncle too. I used to buy Hush Puppies when I was much younger.
I no longer buy them, even though i am a real uncle now.

Anw, if you're looking to buy shoes and have been reading this thread, I guess NOT buying Hush Puppies is the right way to go.
