Quick question. Anyone interested in a size 7 pair of carmina single monks on the alcudia last, in marron brown (or whatever it's called - chestnut basically), minimal wear (less than 5 times outdoor), with bexley shoe trees and box and shoe bag, for say... hm. 350 bucks?

Because that's what I have right now. I thought I could break them in but my instep's too high, and I figure since I'll be back in SG next week I might as well let em go on the cheap instead of having them sit around.

No noticeable defect apart from slightly sticky heel region(residue of adhesive film from removal of heel grip).

Sorry if im wrong about them, but this is what the sales person told me.

-Wooden (Got the kok-kok classy sound when walking but wears off faster)

-Rubber (Silent and more lasting)

From what I read, there is also a leather sole?

For simplicity's sake....
There's rubber,
and there's leather.
Unless you are also discussing clogs.

In general,
Leather for dress shoes.
Rubber for country (in the local context, wet weather) and casual shoes.
That being said. Certain types of rubber soles do look pretty sleek and can pass off for formal / more dressy shoes.

Er I asked him what kind of sole is there, he told me mainly there's only two kind.. Wood and rubber. I din't pay much into detail when I bought it last time, so long it looks and feel good would do only recently start to get curious

Preference very personal thing. Much like ppl in general like t shirt or long sleeve shirt. Very subjective most ppl like does it mean u must like?

This is a office wear thread most ppl who post here wear leather soles not hard when u click on the random past pages.

No one can tell what u asking from the 1st post, until the invention of mind reading over the net is invented

Rubber soles=more immediately comfortable, less breaking in period, good traction.

Leather soles=comfortable in the long run as soles will "mould" to your feet after breaking in, long and uncomfortable breaking in period, poor traction as the leather making sole making contact with the ground is completely smooth, more value for money (only for goodyear welted shoes) as the soles can be replaced.

One is cheaper, the other is more expensive. Which category suits you better is really a matter of personal preference...

Mmm, yes you can say that. It's like a rounded pointy end. I didn't find any problems with the toe region though, just the instep... Ambition got the better of me, I should've gone for the derbies instead of the monks.

Pros:
Comfortable
Nice patina
Lifetime warranty of sole

Cons:
Expensive
Stiff leather that will need 2 weeks to soften

Maybe I should just start wearing it this week then 1-2 month later change to rubber sole???

Firstly, I am not a "pro". Haha.

Personally, for the soles, I would wear the new shoes a few times before sending it for topy/vibram. I would want the last to conform to my feet so it adheres better and provide maximum comfort. Similarly for the heels, I would wear those until the rubber shows some signs of deterioration (like exposing the shoe's inner surface) before sending those for topy/vibram. These are subjective based on individual's analysis and preferences, of course.

I tried one just now and it was awkward trying to walk in them
Kinda felt like wood, doesn't bend much.
