Currently in my ptp transitioning to bmt phase and I'm not so keen on posting because my Sergeant told us most of the dark skinned people or tanned people will most likely go to infantry. He pointed out a lot of the Malays and Indians in my platoon but he didn't point me out even though im Malay. Abit strange. Is it true that being Malay straight posted to guards, infantry etc? And after going through half of my bmt life, I decided that I don't want to go to command school anymore. Not sure what made it change but after being tekan so many times for petty and sometimes unreasonable mistakes, I suddenly lost the motivation to push myself. I don't mind being punished as a whole company but after the punishment, I feel more and more resentment towards the whole experience. People say bmt is the best life. It's okay for me but I don't feel like putting in the shift mainly because Im just tired of it already. Not only physically tired but mentally too. Just get it over and done. Purposely fail ippt, soc and sit test. And also does anyone know how to get into non combat vocations?

Not true. Your commanders won't know and won't get to decide your posting anyway.

You don't have to fail your tests to reject command school. You will be given the opportunity to indicate your preference later.

What you are probably experiencing is a burn out, it happens to the best of us. What I can recommend you do is talk to your buddy about this. During my NS, I also had a small window where I was also feeling burned out, sick and tired of all the crap that was being thrown at my squad. I confided in my buddy, who told me to just tahan the training, and that all the hardships we experience would create memories for our squad to reminisces on.

One of the ways to get into non combat vocations would be to downpes, break a limb for example. But I would implore you to keep on going, you have already gone through 8 weeks of fitness training, another 9 weeks should fly by just as fast. Even if you have lost the drive to go to OCS, you can still go for SCS (I apologize if i get some references wrong, I did my NS in the SPF, so I am not familiar with army terms).

Keep on going, don't give up!

If what you tell us about what your sergeant said is true, he should be reported for racism.

During BMT, at Coy / PL / Sect / Self level, there are always time for tekan session without a good reason for punishment.

Just try your best to go command school to get power to chance the system & provide a better welfare to your men.

Aint true. My sgt told me I suited to go MP and most likely to be posted there. In the end I got posted to navy NMI. I dont think your sgts are able to influence your posting orders.

What punishments did you kana?

For starters move from one place to another company level then first parade in 5 secs. Too slow knock it down. Move in file by an inch also kana. Send arms muzzle below eye level kana, take out water bottle later kana. Got a lot more but the worse one was kana run back and forth from basketball Court to coy line in platoon or company level + knock it down + Hentak kaki over and over again for 1 hour during first fall in. Cause of that almost missed breakfast, we had to Dari kiri capat lari to cook house. Then come back no time rest straight to training. Everyone was half dead by then

Haven't even include stand by bed. We average have 5 to 8 stand by bed or area in a week. The punishment? Knock it down? No.... Hold push up position outside while they check every room. Took almost 20 mins. And that's after route March and pt earlier on the day.

Harsh by BMT standards, but not unheard of (I have seen and experienced worse). Outfield will be worse (given you're still in PTP).

After BMT, you'll be introduced to the concept of "extra duties". That'll probably sting more than corporal punishment.

Command school is your choice, after all. You don't have to fail your tests now and make a decision. You'll be given an opportunity to indicate your preference later on, as said.

don't you find your sergeant discriminatory about what he said about dark skinned or tanned people and his point about malays and indians?

He himself Malay and he say from his own eyes, many infantry Malay. He's not racist or being discriminatory to anyone but he's stating facts.

I will always take weekend duty for most weeks so for me extra duty no problem. I only hate being tekan that's all

Then I think he feels that he got discriminated against. stating a fact is 1 thing, framing it that way is another.

Maybe.he does seem to hate being an infantry soldier but I can't speculate. So the best advice is to do my best and just go to command school? Cause I want to sign on with Spf instead and am hoping they post me out to police Oct after bmt. Already got uni placing and is somewhat related to Spf cause they sponsor degree for that degree specifically which is criminology.

I believe the only chance for you to go over to SPF now is if you go OCS, and get posted to SPF. If not gotta wait till towards the end then can go over after signing on.

Yeah, if not waste time Le. Go and do again. But you know, this week the commanders were surprisingly nice and funny. I have no idea why

It's a misnomer to say that by going to a non combat vocation, u won't ganna sai Kang.

Whether it's Storeman, ASA or even S1 branch, the only thing that determines you will "see" combat is based on your PES status.

Clerk don't need to see combat, you will dread to hear the word "Txxxr Fxxxx". Storeman no need to see combat? You will dread the word "Arty, Arty, Arty"

What's the 2 words meant? It's for you to find out, say anymore I exposing myself to ****.

Haha... take it up the strides and serve the best. As someone who are not experienced, it is always good to get a referral from your OC/CO/Comd and good grades in your NS years. Some companies and ah gong will look into these factors to determine whether you can join them or not.

In Singapore, I think only MHA & MOD will look at your COS for signing on. The rest really don't bother about it.

In fact, what you do in NS really does not matter cause industry do not recognized your experience. Only those companies who have contract with MHA & MOD requested some of the contractors to be vocational trained in order to perform their job.
