I have a Lenovo x220 bought over from my coy. Been using it for 6 years now with no problems.

Only thing is that I find that it is very slow. I have increase ram from 4gb to 8gb but don't see any improvement.

Is it worth to change the hard disk to ssd? Currently it is using a Seagate momentous 5400 rpm which I feel is the bottle neck.

Appreciate any advise

Yes that harddisk is a bottleneck. Also you can always use your ssd in a new com afterwards, so no harm upgrading.

yes definitely its worth doing the change, but make sure you buy a similar or bigger storage and clone over.

It will improve the disk access speeds. But at the same time for a laptop of that age, reduce your amount of Windows animations and such since the integrated graphics of that age is not very powerful.

Have upgraded a my T430s's HGST TravelStar 7200RPM drive to an SSD and it helps with general use. Though, I'd recommend starting with a clean Windows install if possible but that's more time consuming.

You will feel/see the difference with SSD :) I did exactly that with a 250GB SSD & 8GB in my x220. Totally worth it. The x220 thinkpad... refuses to die now! :)

Use until it dies a natural death, amazingly durable so far. Only broke the screen once but got a refurbished screen on eBay for 22 bucks.

Update u guys when I get the ssd, I didn't get Samsung Evo though.

Just got a Sandisk ultra 2 due to Budget constrain

Can I know what's the difference between cloning and clean install? How does it affect performance?

Cloning process is faster not windows runs faster but retain all of the unused drivers and old registry entries.

Clean install is longer process but windows may run faster. Make sure drivers are available before starting clean install. Windows sometime don't recognize old hardware.

Upgrade OS will also work, I believe it is worth the time!
