Worthwhile to upgrade?

I have a 10 year old LG i5 processor laptop that has been upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It has all the standard ports that I need. PC Works fine except a bit slow but still functions well. Occasionally I get a blue screen error and from what I gathered so far, this could be due to bad sectors on the HDD. I now need to run an app that requires minimum 8 GB and extra disk space.

Any forseeable HW/SW compatibility if I upgrade the RAM from 4 GB to 8 or 16 (if that is technically possible) and change hard disk to to a faster and bigger capacity SSD drive (which probably will also solve the blue screen problem)? I guess that would cost me about +/- $300 or in the long run I am better of getting a new laptop. I do not forsee using the PC for any gaming or computing intensive apps.

Can advise on the pro and cons by upgrading? Thanks!

1. What type of RAM (DDR3 or DDR4) you are using
2. Are there any available DIMM slots for upgrading

Atm, 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM is about $100. So yeah it's not too expensive of an upgrade. But given the age of your laptop, you might just want to skip the upgrade and let that $100 go towards a full system switch instead.

As to your I questions I guess I have to check if the RAM upgrade is even possible. If that is possible, for me to let go the old laptop at $100 and buy a new one at about $900 or more when it is still fully functional seemed like a "waste" especially when everything else works perfectly fine.

Upgrading to 2X4GB of sodimm DDR3 and 500GB SSD will cost you less than half of the expected S$300. (I'm assuming your laptop uses DDR3. If it's DDR2, don't bother to upgrade.)

You need to check the laptop manual as to whether 2X8GB is supported.

Just checked. Its DDR2, and also max capacity is 4 GB RAM. So I guess I can forget the upgrade path. Thanks anyways for your inputs!
