so i decided to get another 4gb x2 ram to upgrade it to a total of 16gb

Preferably same brand, perhaps you can look around our forum marketplace for those offloading theirs to upgrade their PCs?

Hi zeniaga,

It would be good to get the same brand preferably. As they tend to work better. However, I did try with mixed RAMS, performance suffered and some issues. So to save those troubles in future, I would recommend getting all from the same batch, brand, model and specs.

Even still, you can still use mix RAMs but it is advisable not to.

Let me put it this way. You will find many laptops on sale with offers of free RAM upgrade. Unless they're direct from Dell or HP, you'll likely end up with mismatched RAM, sometimes with different clock speeds and dubious brand names. By and large, they are functional but there can be niggly issues.

Match the clock speed and preferably, same brand and series. Remember to pair them together (i.e. each twin pair in the same color RAM slot).
