It was a different era.
Back then wrestlers hardly have worker's rights beyond the basic. It was mostly either u rub Vince the right way or u rub him the wrong way, alot of locker room politics as well scandals involving each other and with the boss.
Vince also have a very old school style and he would not hesitate to do the ''wrong'' thing just so to push ratings up. As much as there are stars who thanks him and stayed close to him for making them superstars, there's just as many who detest him for all the nonsense stuff he was doing as well.
Now WWE is in the modern era, where wrestlers have more rights, able to protect themselves and also with mgt advocating a talent wellness direction in that they prefer wrestlers to work together as a holistic unit rather then playing with backroom politics, i think if u are a wrestler today, it's alot safer for you, esp if you are a female. No longer do u have to pander to someone like Vince or to act like a **** bitch or wear super revealing type of outfit just to get ppl to focus on you, ladies like Iyo Sky, Stephanie Vaquer, Liv Morgan and more are celebrated not only for looking good but also for their work ethics and character work.
Men's on the other hand are a bit more jialat. It used to be if u have a Greek sculpted body and look young, you almost for certain get a big push under Vince. Now men wrestlers have to delves into many different pants just to be able to stand out becuz just about everyone in the locker room looks like u to some degree. R-truth and Danhausen are well loved comedic acts. The Miz is the long term loyal gatekeeper who happens to have one of the hottest woman in WWE has his wife. Rey Mysterio leads the Mexican and luchador culture and gotten new faces into the scene and is now the on screen GM of Mexico's Triple A.
Accidental breakout stars like El Grande Americano and their Mask vs Mask led so many eyeballs and new fans to their chars, Both Ludwig Kaiser and Chad Gable literally got a fresh break off their dulling career into stars that ppl actually care and cheer for. Acts like these would almost never succeed under Vince's era.
Not to mention WWE is also a step into Hollywood for some of them, Liv Morgan's movie is coming up, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes is having their Street Fighter movie up now and i believe Drew Mcintyre's Highlander is filming now too.
