Disagree - his CPU is keeping the 1080ti back by FAR! you will see a big upgrade by getting the 5600x. I came from a ryzen 1600 -> 5600x and noticed hugeee difference.

The 1080ti is still a very capable gfx card. I would recommend CPU upgrade.

Just to add 5600x will keep you going for a good 3-5 years. If you upgrade your GPU now, you'll need to upgrade CPU very soon anyway.

1. get 5600x
2. Wait 2 years and get new gfx card.

@ts is there a particular need to get an x570 mobo, for eg running 2 pcie4 ssds simultaneously? if not, b550 is more than enough; heck, b450 with support can also be used.

GEN4 Nvme very x, and i guess the difference isnt that much between GEN3.

Hello~ i am also having the same dilemma over which Mobo to go for. i am considering using a solo desktop for both gaming and streaming. In that case, is the R5 5600 good enough to cover both? Or should i target the R7 5800 and 'futureproof' a bit? For Mobo to be paired, i am eyeing the Asus B550M too... hoping to get some advice on this in terms of my wants and needs... don't wish to overkill also

i just setup mine.
if you are not adding more PCIE or having all M.2 slots installed. B550 is enough.
Be sure to let the shops update to latest BIOS no matter what....my mb need to install ad 3000 Series Ryzen to flash the bios before the 5600X was able to get into BIOS.

GigaByte is interesting since i see fanless MBs.
My Asus X570 ITX have a small fan over the VRM HeatSinks to improve Cooling

Thank you for the advice. I keep having the sneaky sus that I should upgrade the mobo and CPU. So I was shocked when zleipnir told me that I should upgrade my GPU 1st I didn't think I spent $1,200 on that GPU for it to last only 3 years.

Yah lor, just get the mobo with the features that you need, and/or want. When I went for a Ryzen CPU last year, I went for the best I could find, and to me, that was the X570 Aorus Xtreme. If you listen too much to well-intentioned bros here, you'd never be able to decide...

At that time it's a no brainer to pick X570 over B450, as i'm running the 3900x and occasionally OC and don't want the CPU bottle-necked by the MB.
In reality there are a few good B450 boards like tomahawk... but it does not fit the form factor i'm looking for...

Back then, there's really lack of information when X570 first launch. e.g, VRM, Flash Rom size, which one has thunderbolt... B450 tomahawk max is perfect board very stable. But I don’t do oc.
