xfire or change gpu

Hi all
I have question rgds to xfire on my z87 mobo

My gpu is r9 270x
But for future if I were to add another card...

What would it be because I heard adding another card is most likely boosting additonal few fps.

Not sure about xfire technology... but just trying to ease my doubts.

2 cards is definitely hotter than a single card. Do check your exhaust is able to cope with extra heat generated.

When you crossfire, your second card will be adding in performance boost to your first card.

Crossfire or SLI usually takes up more power and more heat is being produced, and using 2 270x together it will perform somewhere around perhaps slightly above 280x standards but definitely not 290.

But do take note that when new games are launched, usually the first few days they MAY not have xfire or sli support OR possible that it will run into game compatibilities issues. Such as flickering/artefacts terrain/backgrounds. Slave card unable to provide frames. Instruction errors etc.

Also do take note on the type of mobos use. Not all z87 will give you x8 x8 bandwidth for both cards. Normally if they have SLI certified then probably you can xfire with x8 x8.

You will also need a more higher wattage psu. For 2 270x recommended is 750w.

By the time you want to add 2nd card for xFire, you're better off buying the latest-gen while selling your existing card for decent change.

xfire scale so little only meh? i tot SLI and xfire work in silimilar ways.

i last time use SLI 760 the bench result higher than single 780 vanilla.

270x is a rebadge of the 7870. It was never near to a 760. 760 is about similar performance of a 7950. You will exceed 7970 performance. But dont think it will exceed more than 290. Not unless you use 2 280.

My 7750 x2 kept giving blue screens on Flash and Bluray rips. Had to disable xfire whenever I'm not playing games. It is a hassle.

Would suggest a more powerful single card rather than xfire.

Its better to buy for eg a r9 290 instead of xfire.

So my 270x just keep dust.... cos if I xfire 270x n 290 eat alot power...

so I think if I want to upgrade ill need to change psu n gpu.

Dun think you can xfire 270x and 290...

For xfire it isnt strict. You can xfire 2 different gpus such as a 270x and a 280x. But you will see a performance of the 280x being pulled down by the 270x.

For sli you must have the same gpu working together.

What i suggest is that if you wanna upgrade from 270x. It is better for you to go for a single powerful card such as 290/780. No point to go till a 290x or 780ti for that $2XX-$3XX differences just for the few fps difference.

Only xfire later if you see yourself in xfire in a month or 2 or perhaps immediately when it is new. Or perhaps if the market release a new gpu and older gpus prices goes down then probably you can get 2nd hand at a great price.

Sell 270X for money. And you can't xFire 270X with 290.

270X can only xFire with 270X, 270, 265, 7870 and 7850.
290 can only xFire with 290X. Refer to spoiler

AMD confusing consumers by their cockster 7870 XT (cue powercolour 7870 joker cards) using Tahiti chips with 7870 GHz Edition (which they are already GHz by default) using Pitcairn chips.

And your last para highlights why 95% of people should stick to a single powerful card instead of xFire/SLI. Save money, save brainpower dealing with the crap inconsistent nonsense headache that is delivered with multi-GPU setups.

Normally depends on usage.

If for gaming and all 3 screens are 1080p a dual 290/780.

If not for gaming, use igp or any gpu that has 3 outputs.
