Xiaomi 15 Ultra will have multiple cameras including a 200MP telephoto camera

“Four cameras, plus a telephoto lens, covering every angle”

If we interpret the statement literally, it suggests that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra would have a total of five cameras. This includes four cameras with various types of lenses and the telephoto lens. However, it is most likely that this device will come with a quad-camera setup, including a 200MP telephoto lens. The leak went further to say that the telephoto lens will support 4.x optical zoom which “should be able to greatly satisfy Mi fans.” This periscope telephoto camera will allow users to zoom in on distant objects with incredible clarity. The advanced camera setup offers extensive zoom capabilities and comprehensive coverage for capturing various angles.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra won’t launch anytime soon. The Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro launched a couple of days ago, but the ‘Ultra’ model is not coming until next year. Despite that, however, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra camera details just leaked.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra camera details have just appeared

Camera sensors and some additional details of all five of the phone’s cameras have been detailed by XiaomiTime. If these are accurate, there’s plenty to look forward to, hardware-wise.

According to the source, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will use a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-900 camera sensor for its main camera. That is a 1-inch type sensor, and the same one that the company used in the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Do note that variable aperture may be in the cards too.

A 50-megapixel ultrawide camera with Samsung’s ISOCELL S5KJN5 sensor will also be included. The third camera will be a 50-megapixel Sony IMY858 telephoto unit with 3x optical zoom.

The company will utilize a 200MP camera from Samsung for the phone’s periscope telephoto unit

The fourth, and last camera on the back, will be a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL S5KHP9 camera. That camera will offer 5x optical zoom, based on the provided information. That will also be a periscope camera, by the way.

On the front, the device will feature a 32-megapixel unit. The sensor on the inside will be provided by OmniVision. We’re looking at the OV32B40 camera sensor from the company.

With that being said, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra was announced back in February. Chances are that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will arrive around the same time next year, possibly during MWC 2025 in Barcelona.

In addition to a very compelling camera setup, with Leica’s lenses, this smartphone will also utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, just like its siblings. A large battery is also expected, along with very fast wired and wireless charging.

The phone’s design did surface already, though we’re not sure how accurate it is.

The 200MP could be a nona bayer sensor with binning++, else a 200MP of that tiny size will incur a ridiculous amount of read out noise.

But * if * they do allow an unbinned 200MP shot would be curious to see how much useful details it can get.

Ah yes, the holy grail of megapixels! a 200MP nona bayer with binning magic sounds more plausible—or we’d be zooming in to a sea of noise pixels! but hey, if they do give us a full 200MP shot, i’d be curious too... though it might just end up as the world’s most detailed blur! :s13:

i recall even with the XM13U 50MP main camera RAW -> it looks like there's some binning/processing. That said, I never tested it after initial release/firmware. Phone memory always maxed out ..can't do raw (sounds abit off here 😅 )

Samsung ? S24 Ultra uses Isocell HP2 has a 200MP output option, instead of binning down, they remosaiced at the circuit hardware level.

In theory in very very good lighting situations can remosaic, then in shitty lighting do binning. Not sure how much more real world useful information or just smoke and mirrors for marketeers for former.

U r the mobile phone guru ma, maybe can get an S24 Ultra and see how useful :D

There are other advantages to smartphones using these " super high " megapixel sensors, a quad/nona bayer allows for instant "single shot" HDR e.g a quad bayer can take different exposures of same scene in a single shot without incurring motion artefacts / ghosting vs doing traditional time-staggered bracketing / pixel shifting. There might be some technical advantages for phase detect AF as well since it is less affected by read out noise, but I am not sure.

My mirrorless raw files 50 megapixel is 100+ Mb, can imagine the pain on smartphones ..

Always wondered if one gets the import set, would there be an issue using it in Singapore or the need to reflash to Global firmware :s22:

Can always enable google services in settings

Flashing of firmware hyperos 2.0 might be impossible liao. They removed the unlocking of bootloader for hyperos 2.0
