Like that no point considering china model? Sounds awful liao in case singpass or other apps fail :s22:
Global set doesn't mean singpass will work too.... Xiaomi 14 series, OnePlus 12, etc have issues with singpass when just launch despite it is global model.

Govtech fixed it after that

Looks like no esim?
if you mean 15/15 Pro, i think wait and see local set first. if see CN set most likely is don't have one. 13/13Pro, and 14 local set all had esim support. if it's the speculated 15 Ultra, then hard to say liao since 14 Ultra local set also didn't have esim for some reason.
Always wondered if one gets the import set, would there be an issue using it in Singapore or the need to reflash to Global firmware :s22:
most likely is fine. the last CN xiaomi phone i used was Redmi K70 Pro, mostly works fine. just have to change some app settings for push notifications. basic google services in built in, can install playstore from their app store. just the usual google specific stuff that require more the full gogole services probably won't work. Android auto, android wear (i think need some workarounds), android nearby share too i think (like google files), google location history (google timeline, google opinion rewards). singpass someone mentioned already, if phone is official stock ROM singpass should work as long as singpass don't mess up (nothing to do with global or CN rom), banking apps i've tried works, google pay works, etc.

personally i think CN HyperOS for 1.X at least is nicer to use than global HyperOS 1.X because it has better customisation options, ability to uninstall most of the pre-installed apps (i find global ROM they are more restrictive), better and more granular controls over app permissions, just to name a few. not sure how global HyperOS 2.X will be, but if CN sets has a noticeable price advantage over local, I might still prefer CN since i don't really care about the google stuff it's missing. but then SG xiaomi prices typically don't markup as crazily as the other chinese brands here in SG, so if no attachment to CN HyperOS, most likely still better to wait.

Thanks for your informative reply, :) Never used a china import before so it's good to know before taking the plunge

for e.g... far more granular for sure. on the other hand, global HyperOS on the Poco F5 Pro I had was barebones. my personal theory is that because apps in China sometimes a bit anyhow, phone makers are the ones that have to step up to give granular controls and limit them, resulting is CN ROM being the way it is with permissions controls. OriginOS and CN ColorOS also like that. then maybe also google (or maybe also global brands) don't want to give users ability to block too many permissions since they likely want some tracking data too. Google is an ad company after all. :ROFLMAO:

or ability to block apps from opening other apps is really useful too, like sometimes you get ads in some apps that you accidentally click, then launch some shopping app or website.

Which means china roms have more in depth controls? This can only be good isn't it

It is good. I can back up alex claims. He poisoned me to try china roms, and there is no turning back now for me.

Also do note that if your company uses work profile for work apps, best to get global rom though. Afaik, work profile is wonky on china roms on a14. Hoping a15 will be better

icic, currently kinda tempted with xiaomi 15 and Oneplus 13. I do still have the oneplus fast charger so may edge towards oneplus 13 instead. Some sellers are touting the global rom being available which I am still skeptical but the cost is a little exhorbitant. :s22:

yeah. a lot more in depth and granular compared to what was available on global ROM. to me it's good for sure since I really don't like giving apps too much access to stuff. a lot of apps these days try to incorporate so many functions and even if you only need basic functionality, they ask for all the permissions nonetheless. Some will straight up just not let you use the app if you don't give them the permissions. for certain permissions, some CN roms will even give you the option to grant permission, but then only give the app an empty list so you can use the app without giving up any data (some global roms do have that feature too iirc).

another example is like granting apps access to the list of installed app, which i think is granted to every single app by default on global ROMs? i get why that's easier, since it allows for convenient stuff like clicking a shopee link and having it open in the shopee app directly since it can "see" you have shopee installed on your phone. or like clicking a location link and letting you choose which mapping app on your phone you want to open it with, etc, so no choice but to allow it in some cases. but then not all apps really need that kind of permission, and i feel like just being able to see a full list of apps that someone installs on their phone can reveal quite a lot of personal info. take this example. if you see i have a ton of dating apps on my phone, it's logical to make the assumption that perhaps i'm single, looking for hookups, or lonely right? or if i have Ashley Madison app, one can assume i'm married and looking to cheat? or for scammers, just knowing what banking apps someone is using can make it easier to target potential victims. So even if an app doesn't directly engage in the scam, sometimes they might be selling user data like this? this can even be a way for a "less kind" government to monitor their citizens? or it could even be unintentional, like an app having those data but storing it unencrypted, then they get hacked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

again, this kind of control probably stems from Chinese market not having like a "regulated" App store like google play store, so ppl there tends to use 3rd party app stores or sideload stuff. so phone makers have no choice but to step up. because if **** goes wrong, consumers will blame the phone companies first for sure. so for us folks using play store, it really might not matter at all. lol. all this is wholly speculative of course. personally i just tend to be a bit more on the paranoid side of things, so i see having more control over permissions as being a great feature to have no matter if things like that are happening or not. but i know some may just find it pointless and don't really care about it at all, which would probably be the more normal reaction to have actually lol.
