Actually the Mi Max was actually thought to be named as the Redmi Max, but Xiaomi changed it to Mi Max after many consideration~

Mi Max is sort of a test water device, to see the interest in mega phablet phones and the final result is unexpectedly good as Mi Max is a hot selling device this year by Xiaomi. Can consider it to be a niche device that's not for most mainstream consumers~

I believe it's possible that they are capable of creating an in house soc themselves.

Just like huawei with their excellent hisilicon socs
Doing own soc designs yields alot of benefits as well as integration with current hardware
