If you care more about performance then get Xiaomi Mi 9. If you care more about battery life then get Pixel 3a. Camera wise, Pixel has better HDR processing while Xiaomi has better versatility. It basically all comes down to personal preference. I would suggest go for Xiaomi, simply because the overall performance of the Pixel 3a is just slow. Not painfully slow but once you compare it to the Mi 9, the pixel has absolutely no match when it comes to performance.
