Hi Friends, so then reading this thread has gotten me seriously poisoned (Grrr you people! hehe) and I am contemplating buying a mi max, if the size fits when i try it out in a retail store.

I am currently using a mi3 - a bit old in the grand scheme of things (but not that old) - but works fine. I've never signed up for a micloud account i think.

Two questions please:

1. Never done rooting of phones before. For me it's always been straight out of box usage; how challenging is it to root it into the global rom (i assume rom = version of user interface) assuming i get a good price and it turns out to be a china version?

2. How can i transfer my contacts and stuff over from the mi3?

Many thanks!

For question 2, I think forummers here recommend using mi mover which can be found on

Settings, additional settings,mi mover.

I haven't tried it myself and will do it once my set is up and running hopefully by this weekend.

Size does matter with Mi Max.

Your must try to hold it, operate it and try putting inside your usual pants pocket to see if you are comfortable with it or not beside the fact that the 6.44" huge screen is a big plus, bigger than the size of the Mi Max physical handset itself in that contect! You know what I mean...

Typing on keyboard is so easy as the keyboard is so big. Reading is so enjoyable as the text and pictures and video are big and clear.

Browsing Facebook is so comfortable as every articles is big and clear.

Watching YouTube or whatever clips are such a joy on this Mi Max comparing to those phones with just a 5.5", 5.7", even the 6".:)

Seriously speaking!

Last but not least. With that kind of low price you paid for Mi Max, it is really not wasting a single cent you earned. :) seriously... :)

True, if you don't like it sell me at 1/2 price, will take it. :)

I wonder if this unlock actually works on another mobile instead of your own. Probably not yeah

nope as the phone will be connected to the PC,and the unlock app will scan for the device info.

wanted to root my wife mi max but I just gotten the unlock code within the 30days frame.

there's another method which involves disabling your windows signature.

Wow! You mean it took them 30 days to grant you unlocking privilege?

I was told it would usually only take 3-4 days or 14 days max.

Try with another cable?
tried with different cables, different charges, different power outlets. didnt help. even with my gf's rmn3 also faced this issue. regardless of in office or at home.

my phone charges at 500 mA.

same cables, charger etc used on my lenovo phone reaches 1700mA...

you don't have to root to get global ROM. just download your desired global ROM (must be compatible with the variant you buy), download miflash and flash it.

just sync your Google stuffs,contacts/calendar and etc on mi3 with your Google account. and sync again on max.
Ah sorry must be using the wrong terminology then. What's the difference between flashing and rooting, and how do I know if the variant I buy is compatible with the version I want - which is probably the global version?

Heh yes I can see why this phone is useful, but yes also that handling is important - no point it being nice to use but dropping it all the time hehe. Is privacy also a concern?

Bigger screen, less privacy of coz, unless you apply those "privacy" type of screen protector.

I, or rather those who have been using Mi Max for long, handling the Mi Max is no more of any concern as we have adapted to the size and know how to hold it, operate it safely so not to drop it.

The matter of fact, holding back a smaller phone... I may drop the smaller phone instead. Lol..

Adaptation rate is the key. You will find that the Mi Max is not that big afterall once you have adapted to it after a week or 2. :)

Took me 3hrs to charge it fully from 2%. Using Anker with IQ gimmick.

If is really 500mA its really pathetic like that can also use PC USB to charge no need fast charge chargers also.
