Don't think there will be global ROM. Anyway, just install Play Store yourself will do.

anybody tried to unlock the bootloader?

i always stuck on the second step on the unlocking app, it's asking me to try again in 194hrs!!!

Some PRC users managed to use their voLTE enabled sim together with wechat dialer app to dial/receive phone call ... not sure the same way can work here or not as their LTE band mayb the TD band ...

Some reported phone is working in Xiaomi Forum.

wechat call is same as whatsapp. If thru data plan or wifi only.

pls check on the earlier provided link carefully, that is not wechat call or whatsapp call we normally use...it is thru 3rd party dialer like our phone dialer.. there are more posts fr that forum ..some even with video... it is kind like our 4G Voice or VoLTE here which charge the airtime rather than data
