Which merchant sells a SD model with global rom?
Also, do these export models let us do OTA updates?

I bought from SmartCell on Lazada as recommended by folks here.

Comes with global ROM 7.3.2 and updated OTA to MIUI 8 today. It was packed well and couldn't tell if it was opened before or anything. Also has Google Play when it arrived. Works fine, usable out of the box. Can't notice any bloatware apart fr Xiaomi apps.

My WhatsApp messages are not automatically downloading and I have to open the app to receive messages, anybody have the solution to the issue?
thanks
Check if your WhatsApp is in the Autostart?

> Security App > Autostart.

If not, put it into Autostart and reboot the phone.

That should solve your problem.

Any apps that doesn't work or receive no notifications, you can put them into Autostart for them to work, in most cases. :)
My Whatsapp also like this recently but not 100% of the time. It's already allowed to autostart since the initial config/optimization...

Strangely, RN3 with 4050mah and smaller screen, seems to lose Mimax 4850mah significantly, in real-time battery life.
What SOT you guys getting?

Maybe the PPI is lesser, thus the processor don't need to work so hard haha, random guesses :s13:
Talking about Mi Note 2......curved edges likes on the Note 7...Yucks! :vijayadmin:
Trend to make their phone nicer haha, but curved phone is like a flower vask, looks pretty but not much uses if not implemented well. :o

This is an interesting discussion on export (China) set vs local (sg) set.

http://en.miui.com/thread-339226-1-1.html

I don't agree with everything in that thread (I still prefer Global ROM vs china ROM). But it's a good discussion.

I also want to add a few things.

(1) It is easy to flash an export set to the official Global ROM if one wants to do so. "adb reboot edl" and the latest Mi Flash Tools plus the .tgz containing the ROM. This will deal with all export sets where the seller installs google play store plus some other strange bloatware. Basically you start from a completely clean slate.

(2) Local warranty is over-rated. Anecdotal evidence suggests that some people have encountered terrible service at the official XM service centre. Plus, if you drop your phone and the screen cracks, that is not covered by warranty anyway (screen replacement costs $150 at XM service centre).

Don't forget the export set can be $80 - $100 cheaper as well! (For example, RMN3 Pro 32GB local set is selling at $319 in Challenger, the export set is $215 in Lazada before discount codes.)

(3) Do you need local warranty? It depends on you. If you are a careless user who doesn't take care of his/her phones well, by all means go for it and waste $80 - $100. If you are a careful user like myself, you don't need it. I bought all my export sets from Lazada (about 10 sets for myself and family / friends, which means I saved between $800 - $1000 so far) and none of them have given me any problems. Even if some of the sellers do not provide 6-12 months warranty, Lazada has a minimum of 1-week no-questions-asked full refunds anyway.

(4) Most phones, if they are faulty, will spoil within the first few days. If they are solid, they will easily last past the warranty period. So the Lazada warranty is good enough for me.

the ridiculous price dif is a turn off
$619 for local mi5 vs $4xx for xport ones...

But how do u install the global rom?

Here is a summary of the steps.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE.

1. Download and install ClockworkMod. This will give you adb.exe.

2. Download and install adb USB Drivers.

3. Download and install the LATEST version of the MiFlash tools.

4. Downloaded the CORRECT latest MIUI 8 Fastboot ROM that you want to install according to your phone model. This is a .tgz file. You will need to extract all of the files.

5. Enable Developer Options on your phone. Enable USB debugging. Plug your phone to your laptop. Accept the warning that appears on your phone.

6. Navigate to where "adb.exe" has been installed. Then run:

"adb devices"

It should show you that your device is connected.

"adb reboot edl"

Your phone screen will turn blank and the LED red light will flash slowly.

7. Run MiFlash tools, point the folder to where the .tgz was extracted in step 4, and be sure to choose the "Flash All" option on the bottom. Be aware that ALL your existing data on your phone will be deleted.

8. Choose Flash, wait for between 3 - 4 minutes, and MiFlash Tools should show success.

9. Unplug the phone from your laptop, and long press the power button to boot up.

Congratulations, you have a clean MIUI 8 installed.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE.

If you need someone to do it properly (I have done it successfully many times for more than 10 phones), I can do it for $10. You just need to come to my place and you must have the Redmi Note 3 PRO model. PM me if interested.
