so redmi note 5A is not redmi note 5?
Nope, the Redmi Note 5A is not the regular Redmi Note 5. It can be regarded as the lite version(aka. cheaper version) of the soon-to-be released Redmi Note 5..

You can consider the Redmi Note 4X export sets, it's going for around $150~$190 at qoo10. Downside to export sets is that there's no local warranty so weigh your preference of warranty before getting an export set.

If you can wait, you can consider the Redmi 5 or Redmi 5 Plus that's coming soon. Both will be featuring the trendy 18:9 display.

Redmi 5 will feature a 5.7" HD+ 18:9 display with Snapdragon 450, while the Redmi 5 Plus will feature a 5.99" FHD+ 18:9 display with Snapdragon 625.
Redmi 5 is rumored to have a starting price of RMB 799, while Redmi 5 Plus is rumored to have a starting price of RMB 999.

Xiaomi mode is really confusing.

It's easy to understand if one understands how Xiaomi name their products.

The numeral series(without any suffix) is the main model. Xiaomi has various suffixes for its products, including:
A = cheaper version of main model
X/S = upgraded/new version of main model
C = special version of main model

SD450 is the lower-clocked version of SD625, performance will be similar to the 625 just a little slower than it.

If you want a phone with SD625, then can either get export Redmi Note 4X, local Redmi Note 4 with warranty or wait for Redmi 5 Plus.

Interesting that if Redmi 5 Plus has a 5.99" 18:9 display, how will they position the Redmi Note 5 then?

Redmi Note 5 is said to be having a 5.99" 18:9 display too, but there will be differences between the Note 5 and the 5 Plus.

It's rumored that the Redmi Note 5 will be featuring the Snapdragon 636 and Dual camera on its rear.

Redmi Note 4 seems passe now since Redmi Note 5 is coming out, but it seems that Note 5 will only come out next yr?

Yeah, the Redmi Note 5 will only come in 2018. For now, you may either wait for the Redmi 5 or Redmi 5 Plus if you prefer newer phones.

Hope RMN5 comes out before year end, strange that Xiaomi does not want to capitalize on the year end sales

They will be using the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus to capitalize on the year end sales (especially the Double 12 sale).

The Redmi Note 5 will be delayed to 2018 as rumors point that Xiaomi is waiting for Snapdragon 636 to be readily available then they will use it on the Note 5. Currently, the Snapdragon 636 has yet to be produced in a mass yet..
