It's something like the following plan. My fibre point and router at opposite end of the living room. No lan points at all. Thanks.
2000s-5-room-113-sqm.jpg

Tough one due to the poor location of the bomb shelter.

Pretty sure single router is difficult, even two good triband routers like Archer BE805 and Xiaomi BE10000 (one in the living room near to the proposed study, one in Bedroom 3) will have problems with kitchen.

Maybe others can help you better.

You probably need to set up a VPN server on the router to access.

You can not use CGNAT ISPs like SIMBA. For VQ/MR you need to subscribe to Static IPv4 add-on. For ST/SH/M1/WC you need to use DDNS.

Thanks Xiaofan. I guess this VPN server is not the same as commercial VPN like expressVPN but tailscale/OpenVPN?

Correct. Xiaomi Router has poor support of VPN servers, but you can set up the VPN servers (wireguard is easier than OpenVPN) on your NAS, a mini PC or Raspberry Pi 4 or 5. Then you need to set up port forwarding on the Xiaomi router. If you set up Tailscale on the NAS, Mini PC or Raspberry Pi, then no need to use port forwarding.

In the case of higher end Xiaomi routers like Xiaomi BE10000 and BE7000, they support docker. So you may be able to set up wireguaud VPN server or Tailscale using Docker.

Thanks! I'll do further research on Docker since there is this function in BE7000. Didn't know accessing a storage in router externally required specialized knowledge. o_O

FYI Asus router have the AIcloud 2.0 function.
https://www.asus.com/sg/support/faq/1010005/

But you cannot compare Xiaomi router FW features to Asus.

In general high end Xiaomi routers have very good HW spec but with only basic FW features, kind of wasting the HW power.

If you are looking at Xiaomi BE7000, you can also take a look at Asus China TUF BE6500, with lower end CPU (same IPQ5322 CPU as Xiaomi BE6500 Pro), but with much better firmware features. It has English Web UI along with Chinese Web UI.

Xiaomi China routers only have Chinese Web UI.

Thanks! I am using Xiaomi BE7000 currently. So far so good for basic usage. I read that 刷机 to OpenWRT is possible but I have yet to look into it. 🤯

No issues with the Asus web UI, you can use English UI and no real difference in terms of the FW features and UI between TX-AX6000 and TUF-AX6000 as per the reports here, maybe only minor difference in themes.

I have Asus TUF-6500 which has basically the same Web UI as my Asus RT-AX86U. TUF-6500 has a few missing FW features which I will wait for future FW updates. TX-AX6000 is a mature product so I will recommend it now against TUF-6500.
So you still rencomend tx-ax6000 now for starhub 1gbps plan or is there any other around that price?

TUF-BE6500 is an okay choice as well since there will be future FW update from Asus.

But TUF-AX6000 is probably a safer bet now.

If you do not need the nice FW features of Asus and no problem with Chinese UI, but rather only care about wireless performance, then there are many more choices.

b) as main router with dual or more 2.5G ports. Can be used as 2.5G AP as well.
Xiaomi BE7000 (quad 2.5G ports, good match for 2.5G plans): RMB799
Xiaomi BE6500 Pro (quad 2.5G ports, good for 2.5G plans): RMB699
Ruijie BE72Pro, dual band, BE7200, five 2.5G ports and four gigabit ports, launch price: RMB 699
TP-Link TL-7DR7260 BE7200 (five2.5G ports, good match for 2.5G plans): RMB 599
ZTE BE7200 Pro+ (中兴问天BE7200Pro+, dual 2.5G ports, good match for 2.5Gbps plans): RMB 599
ZTE BE5100 Pro+ (中兴巡天BE5100 Pro+: dual 2.5G ports) : RMB 329
Asus TUF-BE6500 (quad 2.5G ports) : RMB 799

Only for reference --> Flashing OpenWRT (unofficial version, official OpenWRT project does not support Xiaomi BE10000 yet) to Xiaomi BE10000, for adavnced user only.

One of the benefit is to have VLAN function, then you can use single wire and single VLAN capable switch to put Xiaomi BE10000 to a central location.

Hi have anyone ran the Xiaomi Wifi 7 routers in mesh mode yet? Any comment on the mesh performance? Does MLO also work on the satellites? Understand for Easymesh the MLO is only on the main router and not on the other sattelites. How about the roaming performance, any issues with devices losing connection during roaming or things like that? Will intend to use wired backhaul for the mesh.

I need some advice on xiaomi router.
I am living in a 3 story terrace and have multiple smart devices such as cameras and sensors lights. Currently using Google Wifi (1st Gen).

I would like to get into Wifi 6/7. Most of my devices are still 5G except for a few mobile phones and a newer macbook pro. ISP 2.5G subscription.

What would be your advice to do a mesh?

Option 1
4 units of BE5000

Option 2
1 Unit of BE6500 pro as main
3 Units of BE5000.

1) You need to provide more information.
Do you have LAN ports in the rooms?

How big is each floor? It will be good to share the floor plan with details of the ONT and LAN port locations in the floor plan.

How is the coverage of the current Google WiFi?

Which ISP? WC/Singtel 2.5Gbps plan (aggregated 2.5Gbps) will be quite different from M1/SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan (true 2.5Gbps plan).

2) If you just compare Option 1 vs Option 2, Option 2 is a bit beter. Xiaomi BE5000 has a lower end CPU and it has only single 2.5G port. It is not a good idea to use Xiaomi BE5000 as the main router. Xiaomi BE6500 Pro has a faster CPU and quad 2.5G ports, so it is a better main router compared to Xiaomi BE5000.

But Option 2 will not be a good choice either if you have no LAN ports in the rooms.

3) Xiaomi WiFI 7 routers do not have 6GHz band, so you will miss the main speed benefits of WiFi 7 compared to WiFi 6 (6GHz 320MHz channel bandwidth support). But anyway, they should still be way better than Googe WiFi 1st generation when it comes to wireless performance for WiFi 6 clients on the 5GHz band.

4) Usually for this type of flat I will tend not to recommend Xiaomi mesh solution though. Netgear Orbi may be the better option. Asus AImesh can be an alternative as well. They are of course more expensive.

i was wondering whats the difference between 6500 and 7000 found this article

https://www.topcpu.net/en/router-c/xiaomi-be7000-vs-xiaomi-be6500

DMIPS performance

Xiaomi BE7000 +184%

28800
Xiaomi BE6500

10120

Xiaomi BE7000 has much faster CPU than Xiami BE6500 Pro. Xiaomi BE6500 Pro has faster CPU than Xiaomi BE6500.

I do not recommend using Xiaomi BE5000 (lower end CPU) and Xiaomi BE3600 (256MB RAM, BE3600 WiFi spec) as the main wireless router. Both are fine as AP.

Xiaomi BE10000 --> Qualcomm IPQ 9570 CPU, flagaship CPU, Docker support, 2GB RAM, 256 MB Flash, dual 10G ports and quad 2.5G ports

Xiaomi BE7000 --> Qualcomm IPQ9554 CPU, high-end CPU, Docker support, 1GB RAM, 128MB Flash, quad 2.5G ports

Xiaomi BE6500 Pro --> Qualcomm IPQ 5322 CPU, mid-range CPU, 1GB RAM, 128 MB Flash; quad 2.5G ports

Xiaomi BE6500 --> Qualcomm IPQ5312 (same CPU as Xiaomi BE3600, faster than the CPU in XIaomi BE5000), 512MB RAM, 128MB Flash, quad 2.5G ports

Xiaomi BE5000 --> Airoha (MediaTek subsidiary) AN7563PT, low end CPU (slowest), 512MB RAM, 128MB Flash, single 2.5G port

Xiaomi BE3600 --> Qualcomm IPQ5312. low end CPU, 256MB RAM (lowest amonut of RAM), 128MB Flash, single 2.5G port (may have a version without 2.5G port as well)
