Small hassle with Mi TV.

Mi TV 4S -> YouTube / Aptoide / Amazon Prime - OK (but no Netflix)
Mi Box S -> YouTube / Netflix - OK (but no Amazon Prime)

Lol. So if you use YT/Netflix/Amazon Prime as i do, you will need 2 devices. Thinking of the Amazon Firestick 4K so that 1 device can run all 3 programs that i watch.

Ironically Amazon Firestick 4K will not be able to run Amazon Prime Video if you have the SG Amazon Prime membership.

Ref: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/house-displays-226/amazon-fire-tv-5742706-2.html

In fact you may have to register as a US user as well in order to download apps like YouTube.

Anyone know how to download VIU App?

Viu TV version is only for paid members. But you can try the free version on your Mi TV to see if that works or not.

Ref: Viu and Viu TV on Mi TV
https://skyjuiceiswater.blogspot.com/2019/09/viu-viu-tv-for-mitv.html?m=1

https://www.viu.com/ott/sg/en-us/copyright-statement/tips

Can I watch the shows on TV?

Yes, only Viu Premium members would be able to enjoy their favourite Asian entertainment in full HD on their TV.

However, do note that TV rights are only applicable for selected shows on:
- Selected Samsung Smart TV or;
- Selected LG Smart TV or;
- Selected Sony Smart TV or;
- Apple TV or;
- Casting via Google Chromecast for Android / iOS devices & via AirPlay on Apple TV for iOS devices only. Laptop/PC to TV is not supported.
Click here to find out how to access Viu on TV

Anyone installed Dragon TV on MiTV 4S? I installed mine but can only watch live streaming. The movie / drama section only audio but no picture.

Appreciate advice if there is a solution. Thanks!

Thot the vendor will send you the correct Dragon TV Apk. They usually have their own modded version and send you the passcode to watch their drama..

They used to sell coded TV boxes in Sim Lim many years ago with free viewing of paid programs from IPTV providers. The Government legislated to ban these TV boxes.. Now these providers turned on-line selling the login codes for ordinary TV boxes.. is there any difference? What would happen if the viewers are caught buying the codes on-line? See they are selling it also on Amazon but for programs in other countries like Mexico.

The government can also block the IPTV apps.

Still in the end it depends how hard the right holders pursue the app vendors and how hard the ISPs implement the ban.

Take note big IPTV providers do get sued and many websites related to pirate streaming of live TV have been closed down due to DMCA.

Ref: US$50 million penalty for IPTV providers

https://dimitrology.com/iptv-supplier-omniverse-agrees-to-pay-50-million-in-piracy-damages/

Over the past years, ACE has built a steady track record of successful cases against IPTV providers and services. In addition to Omniverse, it also helped to shut down SetTV, Dragon Box, TickBox, Vader Streams, and many third-party Kodi addons.

As a user, suggest to use VPN to watch free programs using IPTV.. it is infringing copyrights.

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/2...yright-infringing-even-though-just-tool.shtml

there were cases before that users are sued for watching copyright infringed programs downloaded from some websites..

For end users, better do not use download or Torrent.

Streaming from IPTV apps should not be too much a problem for now. Probably no need a VPN yet.

But yes Google starts to take down more and more apps, including IPTV players and VOD apps.

Adrama and ZalTV were taken down last year but users can still download from websites.

Apps like Mobdro are still alive on the website.

There are many bloggers creating fear and try to help to promote sales of VPN for some commissions. So read these articles with a pinch of salt.

I am not encouraging watching unauthorized contents, but so far none in singapore is fined by court for watching unauthorized contents online. In other words, it is not illegal to watch online video even it is not authorized from the rights owner.

However, it is certain that authority will punish those who host illegal contents and using it to make money.

If you think that certain apps or website are hosting unauthorized contents, and it is not right to view them, just don't view it. It is bad to use VPN to mask your identity. Something like wearing a mask to rob a bank, knowing that it is wrong but try to hide identity when doing so.

If certain apps or website are hosting contents and you think that it is not illegal to view it, just do so without the need for VPN.

Take an example of youtube, anyone can upload video to youtube, and some of them are unauthorized, you may or may not know whether it is authorized.

The exception is bit-torrent. For bit torrent, every receiving node is also a host, i.e. when you are downloading video file or watching online video via bit torrent, you are actually hosting the illegal contents.

I don't tink so much, as long as can watch live channel links Astro and crime investigation, I am happy. Rather pay $60 for 1year than starfug/milo monthly

Understand Min Law is amending the Law to make it illegal to stream pirated movies using ordinary TV boxes..

https://mothership.sg/2019/01/android-box-illegal-singapore/

In America, streaming pirated movies can be fined $750 or more according to this article. It also said that using VPN might not be safe as the IP address can also be tracked.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech...ng-illicit-movies-its-complicated/2662072001/

The Singapore Court that rejected SSLC was on ground that "SSLC did not submit "sufficient evidence" to show a link between the IP addresses and alleged illegal downloaders." Downloading is definitely illegal.

If there is a prevailing law, it is better not to challenge it although no one has known to be caught.

US is pretty good in terms of IP protection. But then if you read the above article, it also says the following.

It's clear that federal agencies and big media companies are cracking down on those who run backdoor streaming rings. But can watching bootlegged or pirated video on the internet get viewers into trouble, too?

It's complicated.

Torrenting or downloading copyrighted material without permission is flat-out illegal and a much more serious crime, according to the U.S. Copyright Office. There's some gray area with streaming illicit content, which is a misdemeanor – at best.

Outside of "public performances," watching videos on the internet regardless of the website is largely legal. It's much more likely for agencies and the media industry to target those who download and redistribute content on a large scale, across multiple devices for public consumption.

Of course Singapore can outdo US in terms of IP protection law in the future. So yes it is better to play safe. I am still a SingTel TV customer since 2011 and I am paying for Youku VIP and QQ Music VIP.

And it makes sense to look at legal streaming services like SingTel Cast, Starhub Go, Netflix, Apple TV+, TVB Anywhere+, etc, than those paid IPTV packages which are just collections of pirated streams.

you can watch prime video on mibox s.

after the upgrade to pie, you will find it in the playstore.

at the moment, you can watch via chromecast - run prime on the handphone, select the video, press chromecast button, then turn off the phone if you wish.

Thanks! Yes upgrading to Android 9, Prime video is now available.

Fantastic. Now only if we could have all these on the Mi TV without the need for Mi Box S. Works well enough though, only having to use 1 device (Mi Box S) now. :s12:
