Think this is the normal behaviour of the 3.5mm audio jack. The signal is one way only. When it's plug into the TV, it will cut off the signal to the internal speaker... just like your phone.

I also thinking if this is the reason! However, i remember my previous samsung TV, the 3.5mm audio jack has always been plugged in and if I never on the external speaker, audio will automatically come out of TV speaker :s22:

Anyway, will this be the same problem if I use the SPDIF port? Such as this kind of cable.. 3.5mm plug in to my external speaker, SPDIF port plug into back of MiTV

Sorry, I'm not sure cause I've yet to get my soundbar to try. But I do remember that there is a setting in Sound that you select either SPDIF or Speaker. So I guess the TV will give you only one of them....

Take note that for this particular cable, both ends are optical cable which allow light to flow through. Although title says 3.5mm, its not the same 3.5mm used for phone. This should be TOSLINK to optical. I used this to connect my PS4 optical out to my external DAC optical in but realised that one of them uses a different connector type.

6. I selected English & Chinese at the System level but inside the YouTube app, it does not give me the option to type Chinese. Any idea ?

6. use below app instead of youtube:
https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTubeNext

Thanks. I took a look but no APK, so don't know how to install.

I've installed this. No ads so far. But a little delay when starting the video. But no big deal.

But I still cannot have the Chinese keyboard to search for Chinese video.

Any idea how to search for Chinese videos ?

Thanks to anybody for advice. Thanks !!!

Haiz...

(2) Smart YouTube TV
https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartYouTubeTV

APK link:
https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartYouTubeTV/releases/download/stable/smartyoutubetv_latest.apk

Both above are alternative apps that allow you to watch YouTube.

(1) SmartTubeNext and (2) Smart YouTube TV are two different apps !! :)

Bro fromnuaa suggested you use (1) SmartTubeNext -- because you said you wanted to be able to type/search in Chinese on YouTube.

[EDIT: Bro fromnuaa did provide you the APK link to the latest version of (1) SmartTubeNext in one of his post. Unfortunately, your subsequent reply gives the impression that the app does not solve your problem.

You may have mistaken / mixed up between (1) SmartTubeNext and (2) Smart YouTube TV. TOO MANY these type of (careless) inaccurate posts on HWZ forums -- and thus (always) causes confusion.]

Just FYI, I've tried before -- both (1) SmartTubeNext and (2) Smart YouTube TV.

Yes, if you use (1) SmartTubeNext -- you can type/search in Chinese (provided you've already activated/enabled Chinese capable keyboard on your Xiaomi Android TV).

Hope the above helps.

Thanks for the advice. I think it's a better option. I agree. I'm looking at getting Creative Stage, for that reason.

Apologies don't mind me jumping in like this on here.

Any reason why you are opting for Creative Stage instead of V2? As I was looking on V2 but my friend told me it would be more worth it to add slightly more into the 200+ range and get 1 even more decent one.

You talking about Stage V2 ? I never thought about it. May be I should take a look.

edit: with the black friday promotion, the difference is $50/-. Worth the dif ?

I saw this 2.1 EDR somewhere also but the Creative website specs is BT 5.0. BF sales now is $99/- for V1 and $149/- for V2 (means no sales).

From: https://sg.creative.com/p/speakers/creative-stage-v2#specs. The remote has a Dialogue button which is supposed to enhance the spoken voice. May I trouble you to test see how good this feature is ? (One review says this would improve dialogue in movies like Tenet).

Thanks....

Anyone has this problem?

Connect via 3.5mm headphone jack to external speaker. Sound can be outputted from the external speaker.

BUT

Once the external speaker is powered OFF, sound does not come out from TV speaker. I need to unplug the 3.5mm audio cable from behind the TV before sound will come out from TV speaker.

In short, as long as there is 3.5mm audio jack plugged into the back of the TV, the TV will always try to output audio to the external speaker (regardless the speaker is powered on or not)

For this TV cannot output through 3.5 mm stereo jack and speakers simultaneously. My older Sony TV can... i have the same issue as you, cos I want to leave my Bluetooth transmitter connected but when I don't use my BT headphones, the TV speakers don't put out any sound... my older Sony TV which my mum uses has a Infrared wireless headphone set attached permanently to the 3.5 mm stereo jack. It's super convenient for her, cos when she cannot sleep at night and needs to watch TV, she just lower the TV speaker volume to zero but the audio is still piped through the 3.5 mm stereo jack to her Infrared headphones... don't need to plug in and out in the dark... but this Xiaomi cannot leh...

There is a switch in the 3.5mm socket which cuts off the signal to internal speaker when plugged in. May be some systems internal speaker routes the wiring differently.

There is a way to have both internal and external speaker by making use of the RCA Audio out. Your cable is RCA -> 3.5mm audio socket. Drawback is that you cannot control the audio out volume through the TV remote. Can be a good thing if your 3.5mm device has vol control.

Oh... the BT 2.1 EDR is for V1, the one which I intend to get. I also intend to play audio from my phone to it, I wonder if the quality is going to be bad ??

I can't seem to connect my JBL soundbar to my Xiaomi TV. The sound settings only show TV speaker or SPDIF. I had connected my HDMI from my soundbar to the second HDMI (ARC) port. It still couldn't detect it. Am I doing anything wrong?

Anyone tried Singtel Cast on Mi box? is the quality good?

No issues with normal channels but I am using 1080p 40inch TV or 24 inch 1080p LCD monitor.

If you have large screen 4k TVs, then the resolution of 480p/720p/1080p of SingTel Cast may not be as good on your 4k large screen TV, but then it depends on individual as well.

Majority of the complaints about SingTel Cast in this forum are with the sports channels.

From SingTel Cast thread.

Low bit rate seems to be a common complaint for SingTel Cast Sports Plus pack subscribers.

Sorry, might have confuse you. I am actually contemplating which to get as well.

I think it should be fine for phone wise in terms of signal wise if it is not too far away but for quality wise I think it would be depend on the speaker instead. Was more concern on the bluetooth for tv instead but I guess could use cable instead if there is any latency.
