Xperia Z5 Premium - World's first 4K display smartphone

Played with the phone a second time over the weekend and I have to say that am bit disappointed with it. The items on the screen are not as sharp as a normal Z5 due to the upscaling from 1080p. I tried watching a 1080p movie on the phone and it looks kinda pixelated. Guess they have to redraw the icons in much higher res than the current ones in order to fit that 4K screen.

I thought it should be sharper since it upscaled to 4K.
Maybe the software needs more adjustment.

Not sure what is Sony thinking. Put a normal charger as bundled. I have a chance to check out the phone just now. The display seems dim compare with iPhone and Samsung. Don't feel any wow factor to me. Tried the demo movie inside out, looked like have a lot of detail but the screen just too small to appreciate. As for the camera it tends to lag or freeze a moment when you snap picture. I tried on 8mp setting, slightly better but still not as smooth as iPhone and Samsung. Tried the video mode is quite good. The body of the phone is warm, so heavy user will always get the heat.

I can sense the disappointment in many potential customers, they still intend to sell the quick charger separately with that RRP.

Lol... Fast charger is about 20 plus buy outside is it worth at all pre order?

like other mentioned, 20plus u can get third party quick charger, but not sony original uch-10

the quality of cheaper 3rd party charger can varies.

Any idea of z5 premium has the Matt green color like z5 standard? Really love that color but I don't want my screen to be only 1080 lol

if you prefer matt color, got to got for z5, as z5 premium are glossy finishing

Ya, based on the review from YouTube, you should see similar screen resolution with 2K Display like the one in S6.

All Samsung latest phones and iphones screens are crisper than latest Sony, huge disappointment.
In direct sunlight its not visible even if u increase the brightness to full !!
Even the fast charger is not included in the box, what the heck n price TOP NOTCH..

I am not gonna spend my dollars on Z5P

Could it be a case of the apps not being optimised for the display?

After I got my Tab S, I was disappointed that display quality for Facebook and Instagram was worst than my Note 3 cos there are no apps for tablet, so its just using the phone app and blowing up the size to fit the display = loss in sharpness

I reread again and now I know why:

Xperia Z5 Premium uses its 4K display when you’re viewing either the 4K content you’ve captured using your device or third-party 4K content from streaming services – all other content (including the homescreen and apps) are displayed in 1080p Full HD or lower resolution to simply optimise performance, power consumption and battery stamina so you can use the device for up to two days without charging.

Basically the phone display 1080p only except in video and photos. 1080p on a 4K screen is bound to be not as sharp as compared to 1080p on a 1080p screen

I thought this is already widely known? Only video and photos viewing mode will render under 4k. Everything else is just 1080.

I got it all wrong, thought they will upscale the home screen too but its just 1080p hence its not as sharp as those QHD phones.

Yes, it is already mentioned that the screen will display 4K when viewing photo or video which are of 4K Resolution so normal usage, it will be Full HD which is good for the battery life as you will not need 2K or 4K display for home page or web browsing.

Yes as the ppi is more on the z5 for 1080p .. when in 1080p mode on z5p it wont light all pixels thefore as per 5.5 inch it will only use 401 pixel

whoa is this real? gotta go play with demo set ASAP to see

tbh Sony should have made it a software switch. maybe under Display the user can toggle between 1080p ala Z5 look or switch to 4K and then maybe with a lower DPI to fit more icons and content into the same screen.

i just went to bugis to play ... if u closely watch the screen very close though u can seee pixels... but in vdeo mode playing 4k its very good. But liken others mentioned nt that bright

If FHD for smaller screen like Z5, it will definitely be sharper than Z5P.

But I do not think there will be a major difference for 0.3 inch.
Hopefully i can find a demo set to try and see how it performs.
