Hi...

After months researching for a new laptop... Decided to go with Dell instead of continuing with Apple's MacBook.

I have shrink down the variants of the XPS15 and the Precision 15 5510.

XPS15 in SG have 2 variants, one with i7 together with larger battery and an m2 drive while the other is i5 with smaller battery with m2 and normal 2.5 inch drive.
XPS15 also comes with GTX960M

The Precision however start with an i5 all the way up to Xenon.
This model comes with Quadro M1000M
Unfortunately, its hard to find the price of this unless enquiring directly with Dell...

I need a laptop for video editing using Premiere Pro and After Effects. Will use mostly ADOBE softwares... I am concern about upgradability of storage. Which will be a batter choice?
Both can be upgraded to 32GB RAM

Firstly I suppose you are a student?
Cuz Dell Precision M5510 will cost a lot than XPS since it is a business
model and if you are not a student may cost you up to $4k+.
Student pricing wise I have no idea cuz Dell Precision M5510
is a much customization model than XPS.

As both are Ultrabook design, I doubt you can change/upgrade
the internal HDD like some notebooks can without dismantle the notebook.
Only Dell Precision M5510 you can check Dell US and see
what are the configuration available for it than call Dell and send
a enquiry about the specs you want.

However do note that pricing will definitely increase so please
be careful.
I will vote for Precision than XPS, not to forget three years onsite warranty if anything but provided if you are student if not the pricing could kill you.

Alternate model will be the Precision 3510 but again depending on the specs you want it is also not a cheap model and does not have both m2 SATA and SSD HDD but only a choice of either a SSD or normal HDD.

Lastly if you really fear spending too much, next week got CEF It show.
Just look for a normal consumer notebook with Intel I7 with Geforce 950M/960M.

Asus ROG have the new Geforce 1060 based notebooks cost around $2.4k if I remember correctly.
For Intel I7 with Geforce 950M model is like Asus X500VX around $1.3k,
Intel I7 with Geforce 960M would be Asus ROG model around $2k.

However this few notebooks are much less costly that that Dell XPS,
expect it is not ultrabook nor it is using Intel i7u processor which are low voltage processor.

Heavier yes that is one downside but at least you can change the
HDD. Unfortunately these models only support 1 HDD.

from what I know... both xps15 and precision storage can be upgrade... dun mind taking out 10 screws... similar to the Macs...
I am a student. I saw a poly student offer on last yr for the M5510... it cost only 2400 which is cheaper than the XPS15.
But I dun really know whether students from other school can come to poly fair... it states usual price is 4500

Currently, looking for these 2 models only... as I need something super light but at the same offer great performance... Price.... Money can find... and I'm thinking to buy it early nxt yr.

Just take the precision but I will not advice you to dismantle the notebook
as it will void the warranty.
Mac and Windows laptop design are different, I don't think you can just
dismantle by just 10 screws.

Take the configuration you want and send a sales enquiry to them.
Later on if you wish to upgrade anything inside, send to
either Dell to do it or PCdreams to do at a small fee.

I used to work at service center servicing ultrabook is not easy as you think. If anything snaps especially ribbon cables connecting to various
peripherals than you will have issues.

Here is the vid for upgrades on either XPS15 or Precision...

And from what i have researched... It will not void the warranty...

Do Dell's online shop have student pricing? Or is it a must to thru the hotline to get the student pricing...?

Email Elly@dell for direct agent discount.

But they got fixed variation and you can't change unlike buying from their website.

Go out walk walk and find sometimes Challenger and Best Denki will offer discounts, just remember to do your homework before buying.

They got 17inch as well. That one is damn extreme mobile workstation... Damn heavy as well...
They also got different 15 inch models but the 5510 is the lightest and smallest 15 inch they have... Some say its the same body as XPS 15 with better specs and longer warranty...

Nowadays no point going Fair unless you aiming for those old models that they give great discounts. Newer models all fixed price with useless freebies which was given on daily basis at other stores.

Of course another reason to go is to see xmm hehe
