Lower the better.

I changed at around 12.4 rate yesterday. Should be enough for my trip. Will only change a bit more if the rate goes down.

The number at money changer e.g 12.39, 11.89 is the price in SGD for 1000 yen

So for 12.39, the sgd to yen exchange rate is 1000/12.39 = 80.71
So in short, number smaller the better

Or another way to see it is the amount that you're paying for the yen. That a reference price of $11.50 & $12.50. For the difference you're paying a dollar more (or less depending on how you compare) for the same 1000 yen.

So naturally a lower rate means you're paying lesser to buy the same 1000 yen.

Should have gone to Arcade instead of going to Parkway. Didn't think the rate would differ that much but was offered 12.46 at 6pm, too late to rush down to Arcade by that time

A $13 difference for 1k. Which is a lot unless your time is worth more than that.
But I change in small amounts when the rate is just this bad.
Yea $13 difference enough for my mrt transport down and a Starbucks drink so I didn't change. Hope the rate is the same tomr

I did change some in Dec at 12.15. Anyway no matter how much I change I usually run out by the last couple of days which is when I will go to Citibank to get a global withdrawal.

Quite surprised at the disparity cos Parkway Parade has a couple of money changers and this is the one my dad uses. Personally I go down to Arcade

When I compare with the 11.7 rate I had in the past, I can't help but feel a little sad to change at 12.4+, since it is about a $6 difference...minus transport, $4 could have gotten me a meal.

I changed more back then because of my previous trip, at that point I thought that I might as well just change money for the second trip way ahead of time. I was hesitating to change money then but decided to just do it. I don't regret that decision anymore...
