For those planning on trips in Japan weeks or months away, try changing your yen over different periods to avoid sudden fluctuations in currency.
Lets say we're planning on a trip in Oct, and the rate is Y1000 = $15.50 in July and we buy Y200000 which cost us $3100 now.
Then say next month Aug the yen rose to Y1000 = $16.00, that would be a $100 diff compared to a month before!
And if you're lucky and the yen drops to Y1000 = $15.00 in Oct, you can buy more yen to supplement your coming trip's expenditure. Of course, the opposite may also happen when the yen appreciates and we'll start to thank ourselves for changing the yen earlier
But if you're changing in terms of millions of yen, why not try investing in the market to plan for some small profits before the trip. Or if you're a low risk-taker then keep it safe in the bank where it can at least get some interest, heh..
