Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew says Member of Parliament (MP) for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Chen Show Mao has not lived up to expectations.

In his new book titled “One Man’s View of the World”, the former minister mentor said that with credentials such as being an international corporate lawyer, The Workers’ Party (WP) MP appeared to be a “talented person” in the 2011 general election.

However, Lee said Chen “has not turned out to be so brilliant.”

“In Parliament, he [Chen] makes good prepared speeches, with a written script, but in the follow-up, he is all over the place. It simply does not gel for him,” said Lee.

He added, “The weight of public expectation of the man, given his rather impressive résumé, has probably added to the disappointment.”

If LKY still around, he'll write a bloodshed book about most of the current ministars and pap MPs

Luckily, it was just one man's view... 🤭

I will rem him.
Attended my one and only WP rally.
And he spent a long time telling some cork and bull stories.

The hype was a top scholar who studies in all the ivory league universities in U.S. and UK. Very strong credentials, like a typical pappy candidate but end up in WP camp that caught all by surprise.

I remember when he appeared, Lao Lee gives him a thumb down saying he won’t make it in politics.

In the end, Lao Lee was right. Old man is really old man

LKY got foresight

Surprised that no one knew about the saga...

So he was the 'underdog' that many people were so excited about (like Jamus). When he appeared in rallies and speeches, he spoke so inspiring like LTK.

But in the end, he tried to wrestle power from LTK. CSM wanted to be the chairman of WP. Then internal conflict... In the end, he lost the votes to be the chairman and he disappeared quietly after that. Everyone said he was a backstabber/mole or whatever... but who knows. After that, in parliament, he was very quiet all the way until the next election... All we know is he disappeared from the political scene.

@zensushi

He wanted to take over LTK as Sec-gen.
He received 45 votes while LTK received 61.

Nobody knows why he suddenly challenged LTK for the position. Rumoured that he was in cahoots or persuaded by various lao jiao members who were sidelined in the party to fight for the position.

He was late 40s when he contested in 2011, now he should be in his 60s. Time flies....

I think that's why CSM quit eventually. :s13:

Not easy la bro. You are machismo like Southampton and play against Man City. Some more referee, assistant referee and VAR referee all on City side? Even today Messi go Southampton also difficult la.

Don't believe you can ask Winnie the Pooh to quit from CCP and come try. LOL!
Man city this season disappointing.
