your views on S2340l ?

Hi guys,

Needed a 23/24 iches monitor to view browser windows sidebyside.Really like the glossy screen, small borders on this monitor. And how come SLS prices seem way much cheaper than Dell website prices?
anyone ever used an S2340L before, is it really worth it?

Its a glass/glossy screen. There will be reflections

so u should think twice and take physical look

Bought the S2340L at MBS during the PC show in Mar 2013. It has a glossy screen, but so far there's no cons for me yet cos I don't touch the screen. Reflections wise, I also did not feel it, maybe I placed the monitor in a strategic place.
Overall, I chose it over the rest (ultrasharp series) cos it won the tech awards in 2013, which I thought it will be of some substance, and also it has HDMI input, which mean I can double it up as a TV as long as the DVD player/Mio setup box has HDMI output.

I bought mine from IT Show too. I have been thinking of either this or the U2312HM, and I finally chose this because of the glossy screen and it looks sooooo much sleeker! And yes, I'm totally loving the glossy screen!

the free hdmi cable is which type? hdmi - hdmi (micro/mini) ?

aw man... really wanted to hoot this yesterday, but didnt get the chance to.

I think the free cable given is a hdmi one.

Why did you guys pick this over u2312hm?? Despite the small price differences, the other one has a display port connector and 4 usb ports to it also... aside from glossy/matt screens being a preference

The free cable is 2m Belkin HDMI cable.

Basically it all comes down to glossy vs matte. I personally prefer glossy's more vibrant colour, and so i chose the S2340L. (other than the fact that it looks so sleek! panel is super thin)

Connections don't bother me, as i will be using this purely for my PC, and my gfx card has a HDMI output.

I'm also thinking about getting this.

I used to have an iMac and the relections were minimal as long as you don't place it directly opposite a window or any other light source. Think they both have glossy glass as opposed to glossy plastic. Glass is much better than the plastic.

Only problem, for me, with this Dell is that it only has 1 digital input (HDMI) so you cannot connect multiple sources such as a console and pc unless you keep swapping cables or use the vga port.

I am choosing between:
- Dell S2340L (glossy glass, HDMI + VGA)
- Acer H236HL (glossy glass, HDMI + DVI + VGA)
- LG IPS237 (light matte, HDMIx2 + VGA)
- AOC i2369VM (light matte, HDMIx2 + DisplayPort + VGA)

I think they all use the latest LG AH-IPS panels so should be good. I have seen the Dell and the LG (27" version) and the image quality on both is great. If you consume a lot of media then go for the glossy one as the picture looks very punchy and vibrant without being over saturated. If you do a lot work as well then go for the light matte as the picture is also fantastic just a little less depth but barely any reflections at all.

I'm waiting for the others to be available so I can see first hand and decide. The only problem is that even seeing them in person won't help much as the lighting is very different in the stores, the settings are not equally calibrated so they may set up their favoured model to look better, and a lot of stores have some video continuously looping so you can't play with it to see what desktop will look like or text size or anything else.

I am also looking for a 23" monitor for less than $300. Preferably flameless design with IPS panel and built-in speakers. So far, only AOC and Viewsonic fit the bill.

Did I miss out any possible choices?

Went to Challenger Funan and took a look at the S2340L 'cos I oso quite interested, but I feel the build quality not very good. The glossy surface not flushed to the plastic bezel, then when I go push it a bit, it sink in and the other corner pop out. I dunno is it because of display set or what, but I see the same thing on the 22" S2240L model oso.

Now I'm considering the ViewSonic VX2370Smh-LED instead.

Saw the review on YouTube (by NCIX) for the Acer H236HL BID. Looks great! Hope this will be here soon so I can compare. Not sure what the BID bit means? Hopefully we get the same specs

im using s2340l. vibrant colors. good build quality compared to AOC. some were complaining about Dell's build quality but i think it's one of the better ones. I do like Ultrasharps but it doesn't look as good as it's quite thick on the sides. If u need a matte, then go for U series. if not, the S series is actually pretty good for the price.
