Hi, anyone used youtrip and trust card for their previous trip to Korea? How’s the rate in comparison? Thinking whether to deposit to YouTrip or just use Trust straight.

Used YouTrip quite extensively on my last trip... rates are very good... quite close to spot rates...

Just top up 2-300 dollars for daily usage... not enough then top up again... but dun do large top up unless u are paying for large ticket items and sure that they can use mastercard... coz YouTrip unable to withdraw out once u come back Singapore... can only do overseas ATM withdrawals... so no point putting too much inside...

Actually a big insult to compare cards like Youtrip and Revol to cards like Trust. You see the simple thing trust do, totally cmi. I remember during the promo period, the free rice redemption also cock up. You really “trust” them to handle ur transaction? The name already buay gan. Call “trust” because they really need ppl to trust them. Imagine today Apple is call “Best phone”. Machiam SingTel should call themselves “Best network” in future. 😜

Came back not too long ago and used Youtrip.

Youtrip generally worked well (for places that accept credit cards).

Out of the 20+ times I used it, only 2 times it couldn't go through. A bit weird considering that these were in a convenience store in Myeongdong (a touristy place), and a big Lotte shopping mall (albeit further away in the outskirts of Seoul).

I use both youtrip and trust. In the end used trust card more as don’t have to top up. Trust and youtrip the rates comparable.

How come so low? Today I saw Arcade they are selling btw 960-970… most are around 965-968
I think earlier today, spot rate (based on xe) dropped to as low as 963. 🙁 Maybe recently a lot of fluctuation for krw too, so the fx not as good.

I seldom use trust tho, I assume the fx rate is final tho the txn is still pending.

But Usd rate was all right. Bought stuff at duty free in the evening and fx was 1.36.

so far, I have use trust ard throughout My 10days trips and the rate are pretty good. Choose Korean won over SGD if required to select while making payment. Only face issues drawing money from atm with trust card in Korea.

Some see the need to top up Youtrip as disadvantage, but I see it as an advantage because if lost or scammed, the amount of money that can be lost is contained by how much is in the wallet. Am I in the minority?

We went Uniqlo to top up some more Heattech wear & jacket cos on sale while we will in Myeongdong last week, used my Trust card but the cashier only talk in Korean which I didn't understand and i mistakenly chose SGD... Heart pain on the lost of exchange rate... Lesson learnt and after that we know what to choose when ever the 2 currency pop up during payment.. lol..

During my trip from 20 Dec to 26 Dec, I used mainly my Trust card and few small purchased on Youtrip because I still got some SGD inside the Youtrip card.
Exchanged rate on Trust round 972 to 975 vs Yourtrip around 975 during that time..

Perhaps I share my experience when I travel to China with some of my amdk/ high net worth friends. During the trip, most started using their atas card. Got simi centurion, insignia, ultima, voyage private banking/ bank of Singapore simi **. When we started the trip, a few of them got their card suspended for various reasons. Example PA forgot to remind them to allow card to do overseas transaction blah blah. And need to call back bank to unblock cards. In the end all kuku kana high and expensive phone bills racking to $200 for trying to resolve card issues. And worst of all, all these atas card is routed to concierge who will tell you they can’t unblock that card and need to call another number.

A handful of us has revolut but occasionally WeChat/ Alipay app transaction failed because revolut block that transaction. Don’t know why but luckily fintech card got chat function etc. The most satki is 1 rich guy who use his youtrip card. Strangely don’t know why his WeChat using Youtrip card machiam make it 100% for whatever transactions. And inside his youtrip card he loaded $30,000. Without him, I think our pants all drop. When we travel, it is not about the small difference in exchange rate but rather the reliability of the cards. During the trip, we still joked that without this youtrip guy, we will probably be eating air and drinking rainwater.

And the funny thing is during the trip, everyone is applying and transferring money over to youtrip. I think no matter simi dragon/ phoenix card you carry, min need to bring along 1 youtrip card. And personally I will not use trust. Because simple things also can’t get it right, forget about complicated things
