never tried using chrome on my MBP.
i played youtube for 13 hours on my M1 MBP straight not hot.
I watch at safari though

Playing video is a light load to the M1 chip. I've streamed Youtube videos at higher resolution, i.e. 4K, but it doesn't get warm at the bottom. If you have not perform the thermal pad mod, it is unlikely that you will feel the bottom of the MacBook Air M1 heating up. I've performed the thermal pad mod, and it is just "warmish", not hot. And I am also using Safari as I prefer to avoid Chrome.

oh you did the thermal mod... wouldnt it void warranty since u open the bottom case le ? or at least they will know u did open it.

I heard that it will void warranty, but I think it helps with cooling, so I just went ahead.

They will surely know that you did the thermal pad mod. The reason is because on the cover, they have applied some black colored tape on it, which I assume is used to absorb heat from the passive heatsink. When the tape is in contact with the thermal pad, due to the grease on the thermal pad, it will leave a "wet" patch there.

For me, better cooling generally leads to better longevity. So it is a risk I am willing to take. After all, I did not extend my MacBook Air's warranty, so its still 1 year, of which I've used it for more than 3 months now.

If its the M1 MacBooks, there should not be a case where it can't run 1080p videos on Youtube smoothly. Only reason will be because Wifi is not fast enough. At least I've run 4K videos without any issues.
