Wow, at 33, you already had tried to build up many companies and you mentioned also that your net worth consisted of 1/2 equities. So you should be rather good at investing. Can you share some tips with us so that we can learn from you?
On my equities, I don't know more than an expert about any single company / gold / oil / bitcoin so I invest in ETFs. When markets are high, I'll sell down. When markets are low, I invest more and buy call options.
My equities have helped, but what made more of a difference for me was to:
1. Track assets/net worth diligently - understand what is making it go up or down
2. Calculate and maximize net returns for everything - look at historical returns for STI, IWDA, S&P and think about what drives the companies in those indexes... the choice on where to invest becomes easier
3. Reduce non-invested funds (e.g., what is sitting in a bank account earnings < 1%) - aside from an emergency buffer
