well I guess this was a good time to teach me a lesson..

all along I am more comfortable like 60% cash/bonds 40% equities, when I see the run up last 1-2 years and seeing other people in 90% equities I am always questioning my decision why I did not go all in last time..

if i was 90% equities and did not have some cash as buffer think I will be very stressed at such a big drop
Your 40/60 stocks/bonds is a good conservative ratio. It's still well within the balance portfolio boundaries of what many personal finance books recommend. The most important thing is you're comfortable with it and can hold for the long term and withstand turbulence and not panic sell when disasters strike.

As for 90/10 stocks/bonds, it's suitable for some use cases related to STI ETF, for example:

✅️ you're a HNWI and the dividend cash flow alone is enough to cover your expenses. Dividend streams are relatively stable thus you can safely ignore price fluctuations

✅️ you're a young saver and DCA into 90/10 STI/bonds. Since STI ETF dividends are stable, you DCA the dividend payouts into more STI shares when it tanks and less shares when it rises. This is classic buy low sell high strategy, which is exactly what DCA is about.

Nevertheless, I consider that 90/10 is on the high equity side.

If the steep drops in tech stocks makes one tempted to sell, well.. This is cold comfort... but it's a good chance to understand one's risk profile better.

Anyway, my take is that the market is overreacting to the results of the mid term elections.
