Thanks :) I think it is good to get honest feedback from people, have some good mentors. People who know us well and can tell us what is our strength and weakness. If we can somehow know ourselves well, that is already half the battle won.

i know my weakness and my strength.
My weakness: My intellectual ability to go very deep in any subject is lacking. I was never good in maths and didnt understand most concepts of physics or math. I am not a very people person or a pleasant personality. I am not someone who is going to be popular and have lots of friends. I am not a very driven person, I never take any initiative or put up my hand for anything. I hate limelight and like not to be troubled with work.

So given those weaknesses, you can say, it is quite difficult to make any good career right? :)

My strengths: I generally dont make enemies wherever I go. I somehow am usually in the good books of bosses. If the boss says sky is red, I say yes boss, sky is red and I find most bosses would rather love to be pleased than told the truth. I have been generally lucky to be in a sunrise IT industry and just learn enough to be able to make a career out of it.
Given your self-professed strengths and weaknesses, I think you have done very well for yourself already. What really helps in your case, financially speaking, is your frugality and your ability to live below your means. You being able to derive joy from the simple pleasures in life also helps tremendously. In the latter half of your life, you get to enjoy geographical arbitrage which many born and bred here can only dream of.

Career-wise, someone like you will fit in very well as a cog in a machinery, so MNCs where you can hide in one corner and just do that thing you’ve been asked to do. You are likely seen as a reliable pair of hands, unambitious, and ‘harmless’ lol. So your boss probably doesn’t feel threatened by you, and can also safely farm work for you to do. With such a boss, you will naturally be taken care of and may even climb as the boss climbs. After all, these ambitious types need minions to do the work right, minions who don’t rock the boat in the process. 😉

YTD gain in networth drop to 3.95% despite receiving bonus and stock in Feb. With the market in turmoil , I hope it does not fall into negative again like throughout 2022

Feb numbers in SGD terms:
YTD networth excluding new inflows = 3.39%
YTD networth including new inflows = 3.80%

Networth 1-Jan-2023 = 1.228 million SGD
Networth 28-Feb-2023 = 1.284 million SGD

Equity allocation 52%

Feb month SGD fell, so it makes the performance look slightly better even though markets were down in Feb.

Mar numbers in SGD terms:
YTD networth excluding new inflows = 4.32%
YTD networth including new inflows = 5.05%

Networth 1-Jan-2023 = 1.228 million SGD
Networth 28-Feb-2023 = 1.293 million SGD

Equity allocation 53%

In Mar, just continued my DCA of 6k into equities, also I received my income tax bill, so took a one time hit of 10.5k.

No thanks to the SVB and CS crisis, my portfolio dropped from +7.9% to +5.58%.

I didn't know foreigners receive their tax bill in March... I haven't even filed my tax return yet, I had better do so soon :s13:

i see.. ~150k annual income?
144k, but 2023 I will cross 150k as I got a 7% hike this year, due to promotion. I got promotion last year too (competency promotion last year and this year title promotion). Since covid my salary has gone up by about 2.2k a month but rents have also gone up by the same amount. My 5i hdb in Jurong was 1.8k in 2018 and now in my area same house rents for 4k.

So the hikes are just enough to keep up with the inflation. But not everyone got such hikes, I feel sorry for them, its going to be really brutal.

4k!?? Wow.
What's stopping you from getting an apartment in sg?
You should have more than enough money as downpayment for a decent condo in 2018 (or earlier).

Congratz on your promotion and salary hike 👍

congrats. 2.2k increase in monthly salary is nice. I also got an inflation adjustment last year, I'm not going to be promoted anymore but at current salary I am more or less content to coast and prioritise work-life balance 💻🍿

Why not pay your tax bill monthly via GIRO? interest-free too.

At the start of Covid, which was around early 2020, my stock portfolio was around 70 plus k sgd, within 3 years, I aggressively topping up my stock portfolio while paring down debt, manage to grow it to around 258 k sgd, which is more or less on par with my CPF SA + MA.
Hopefully at the end of 2024, this portfolio will grow to at least 350 to 400k sgd.
