as this is the internet, I guess everyone is free to use their own definition of net worth, depending on who their audience is and the purpose of sharing their networth.
for example, if you want to benchmark yourself against a certain wealth report, like Wealth-X, then you of course need to use whatever defintion they are using for net worth ....
if you include HDB value as part of your net worth, in a few years time all 4 and 5 room flat owners will be millionaires....
so the exact calculation depends on your purpose....

purpose is to determine whether choprasinkie will have more wealth than chopranonsinkie at any instance. sinkie version owns a 3room new bto and pay the bto solely by cash via 30yr installment. non sinkie version pay same cash amt but as rental

bto value at 2023 $200k
bto value at 2053 $500k
both chopra passes on at 2063
bto value at 2123 $0

all else are e same
both chopra dont invest cpf oa

My draw down from last year recovered about 60%. But I didn't sell....so networth has increased but no material benefits?

I face the same problem, I don't sell my shares, so I also don't get any material benefit. The shares just sit there in my accounts. :ROFLMAO:

Of course, some shares pay dividends, so if you are holding shares like UOB and DBS the obvious material benefits is that you are getting more dividends this year 🏧 🏧 🏧

even after you sold
you will buy back again
If that is the case
To you
there will be no material benefit from investing

Month of July total networth hit above $1.5m, I just include everything. Estimated amount when I plan to early retire will reach 2.2m+. Feels to me it's inflated as my primary residence value gone up quite a bit, but I still include it in because it generates rental income.

Long time since I've been in here, comments looking very healthy.

Just curious if anyone projects out their net worth in Excel (or any other software) and if so, accounted for the spike in inflation going forward. The FIRE goalpost might just shift a little because of that.

Hi, I do. But it's an estimate ( as it is really hard to forecast the future) and the inflation rate is different for different expenses.

I avoid brain damage by lumping it all in a basket and then projecting core inflation out using an annual moving average since MAS core inflation is technically a basket of items less accommodation & cars. This is like, the best guesstimate I can use
