Z690 + 13th Gen Upgrade Process

I thought I'd post this for those on Z690 already. If you want 13th Gen RaptorLake to work properly, please follow Shamino's advise as detailed in the link below.

Make sure you do all steps in sequence. I probably think you don't have to bother to switch bios to update both as I think most are running 1 bios mainly. If you switch between main and backup bios often, then do this procedure for both the bios.

The above link is for Asus but you can find corresponding drivers and ME update tool for your own brand of boards.

This process ensures full performance and stability of the board with 13th Gen CPUs and also reflects the proper SP rating of 13th Gen CPUs on Asus Z690 boards.

I am a long time Intel user here, don't see why both BIOS and MEI have to be updated before upgrading
to Intel 13th generation.
Usually to support new CPU, BIOS will need to be updated.

Intel Management Engine wise which I doubt most do not know what is it for and why is it essential.
Intel MEI by right is a must to update not to support new CPU but to address security vulnerabilities.
When Intel MEI is updated, the driver from the manufacturer website must be install along with it.

In short before you change to Intel 13th generation, BIOS must be updated first than do a clean
install of Windows (Not reset) for optimal performance.
MEI update comes later after the latest manufacturer driver have been installed but not drivers
from Win update.

Intel MEI update also applies to older Intel platform like Intel 8/9th, you can check if
the manufacturer release any Intel MEI update.

Different gen, is recommended to do a clean install. Drop in upgrade may not be stable in the long run.
Anyway install Windows at the most take few hours to complete. Unless Windows 7 PC which I still have, it takes a day just to setup as well do Windows update.

u can just leave it unless u encounter the bug where ur windows wont recognize all the cores u have.

ME only needs to be updated once. It's a separate chip or its stored in a completely separate location of flash memory, which is why the ME is never updated DURING a master BIOS flash.
